After a few moments, he closed his eyes again.

I urged Louis in a quiet whisper so I wouldn't wake up the cat.
He nodded and hesitantly reached out to touch Michelangelo's head.
Michelangelo：Mew!
Once again, Michelangelo yanked his face away from Louis,
whose face dropped with disappointment at the repeated rejection.
Louis：I guess it's just no use.
Jily：Maybe it just takes time for him to get used to people?

（I think he's really affectionate towards Giles.）

I explained to Louis how Michelangelo usually acted,
and he nodded in agreement.
Louis：You're probably right.
Louis：I'll just try again the next time I see you, okay?
Louis spoke to Michelangelo in a tender voice.

The cat meowed back at him in response as if he understood everything Louis just said.

He nodded and then rested his head on my shoulder.

I heard my heart pound loudly in my ears.
I smiled, thinking that Louis reminded me of a cat, the way his body was snuggled up against me.

Suddenly, the sadness left his eyes and they flashed with mischief instead.
Louis：Since Michelangelo won't pay attention to me, you'll have to do it instead.

（He is so adorable...）

I grinned at him and leaned forward to kiss him, but—
Louis：Jily...
He suddenly stopped me.
Jily：Louis?

I blinked with concern, but then his gaze dropped to his lap.
Michelangelo was still between us sleeping,
but his tail was curled around Louis's hand.

We grinned at each other and then we heard a quiet knock at the door.

Jily：Come in!
The door opened and Giles tentatively poked his head into the room.
Giles：Pardon me for the intrusion, Your Highness. Is Michelangelo in here?
As soon as the words left his lips, he noticed the cat sleeping between us on the sofa,
and a smile spread across his face.
Giles：I came to get him since I've finished with my errand,
Giles：but it seems that Michelangelo has grown quite fond of you, Duke Howard.
Louis：Do you think so?
Giles：Yes. He never touches anyone unless he likes them.
Giles：I'll let him finish his nap with you two. Excuse me.
Giles gave us one more smile and then quietly left the room.
Jily：Hm, maybe that's how Michelangelo shows his affection?
Louis：I hope so.
Louis：Now I just need you to show me more affection and I'll be satisfied.
My heart started pounding again as I looked over at him.

Jily：I think I want to take a nap with you, too.

Sebastian squawked and then suddenly took off into the air.

Jily：Leo said in his letter that Sebastian gets pouty when he leaves because he wants attention.
I looked up into the sky worriedly and Giles let out a sigh.
Giles：I don't think Leo's been giving that bird sufficient training.
Giles：If he wants Leo to pay more attention to him, he should just say so instead of acting out.
Sebastian：Leo. No. Too busy.
Sebastian swooped back down, turning his face away in a huff as he squawked about Leo.
Giles：If he's busy, that's precisely why you must ask him.
Giles smiled, spreading a handkerchief out on the edge of the fountain.
Giles：Come, Jily.
Giles：You too, Sebastian.
Giles sat down next to me by the fountain,
and Sebastian hesitantly landed in between us.

Giles：And I'm quite sure he'll finish up his work in no time so he can play with you.

His face was much closer than I'd thought and my heart skipped a beat.

（I was so absorbed in watching Lucia I didn't notice how close we were.）

I felt heat rise to my cheeks and started to lean back a little,
but he suddenly reached out and touched my face.
Leo：You're the one who's adorable.
Leo：Your cheeks look like little red apples.

His eyes flashed with mischief as he leaned forward.
I closed my eyes in anticipation of a sweet kiss, but...

Lucia suddenly started chirping loudly in my ear.

Her high-pitched chirps startled me and I quickly pulled away from Leo.

He held out another treat to Lucia, who accepted it appreciatively.

I nodded as Leo suddenly reached over to clasp my hand.

He gently slipped his fingers through mine, and just as I was about to squeeze his hand...

Lucia took off from Leo's shoulder and landed on our hands.

She started rubbing her feathers on our hands affectionately, nuzzling us.

Leo started to laugh and in a few seconds I couldn't help but giggle, too.

Lucia reached out and nibbled affectionately on my finger.

I reached out for the bag but then I stopped myself.
Jily：We probably shouldn't give her too many treats, huh?
Leo：You're right. That should be enough for now.
Leo：Let's play together instead. Okay, Lucia?

She chirped happily, perhaps understanding what Leo said.
She pushed off of our hands and started flying happily around the room.

I looked up at her and smiled.

Albert：The archduke will be out all day, so he asked me watch Rook for him.
Albert：Perhaps he felt comfortable leaving the pup in my care since he knows I have a pet, too.

Moana：But, um... I imagine caring for a rabbit and a wolf are two entirely different things.

Albert：I have a feeling Rook can do much more damage with those teeth than Benjamin ever could.
Albert cast a wary glance down at the wolf pup.
Rook cocked his head to one side as he returned Albert's gaze, still sitting obediently.
Moana：I'm sure there's nothing to worry about. He seems very well-behaved.
Albert：Perhaps you're right.
Albert：But what if he develops a fascination for my glasses like Benjamin? That could be quite dangerous.
Moana：Oh, I almost forgot about when Benjamin tried to steal your glasses!
I let out a little giggle, but Albert did not share my amusement.
Instead, he furrowed his brow with concern and knelt down in front of Rook.
Albert：I'm not certain I can trust you.
Rook：Aroo?
Rook let out a little whine,
then nuzzled his snout against Albert's hand as if to reassure him.
Albert：Ah! That tickles!
Moana：I think he was worried about you since you were frowning, Albert.
Moana：See? He's a good boy after all.
Albert：I suppose so...
He nodded and pushed his glasses up on his nose, then gently patted Rook's head.
Albert：He is very obedient.
Albert：I wonder how the archduke trained him to be such a good pet?
Albert：Is it because wolves are naturally loyal?

（Unlike Rook, Benjamin's kind of naughty...）

I smiled at Albert as he talked out loud to himself, seeming worried again.
Rook：Arf!
Rook barked and came over to sit at my feet.
Then he started running wildly around the garden in circles.

I called out to him and he turned to look at me, tail wagging.
But then he dashed off to run around happily in circles, stopping and starting several times like that.

I lifted up my dress off the ground and started to chase after him.

I giggled as Rook let out a gleeful howl.
I turned back to look at Albert,
who was standing there watching us with a tender smile on his face.

（Whoops, I totally forgot he was watching. Now I'm a little embarrassed.）

I blushed a little but played with Rook for a while longer,
then both of us returned to Albert's side.
Albert：Over here, Moana.
He led me over to a bench and I plopped down on it, exhausted from the exercise.
Moana：Sorry I left you like that to play with Rook.
Albert：It's all right. I enjoyed watching you.
Albert：You had the most carefree smile on your face. It's been a while since I've seen that.

I reached over and clasped his hand, touched by his affection.

I heard his quiet voice over the gentle breeze, and we shared a smile.
He squeezed my hand a little as he gazed into my eyes.

He slipped an arm around my shoulder, gently pulling me close.

Rook pushed his wet nose in between us, sniffing curiously.
We both burst out laughing and broke away from each other.

（I thought no one else was here, but I totally forgot about Rook!）

I pressed my hand to my hot cheeks and stole a glance over at Albert.
He was pushing up his glasses, looking slightly pink himself.
Albert：Maybe he wants some attention.
Albert：Even if he's clever, he still is a baby.
Moana：True.
Albert scooped Rook up and set him in his lap and I began to stroke his soft, fluffy fur.
