  Nico VS Albert

The sun's rays shone brightly in the blue sky that day.
Albert had come to show Jily
to her room during her stay in Stein.

(I'd expected someone stubborn and strong-willed.)
(Especially for a princess of Wysteria.)

Lost in his thoughts, Albert's gaze fell upon Jily again.
Noticing that the knight was looking at her, the young woman smiled back.
Jily:Please feel free to sit, Albert.
The man jumped when he realized he'd been caught staring.

(We've met so many times,)
(but it's hard to imagine her governing an entire country.)
(She's just too kind.)

Albert:No, thank you. I'll stand here and wait.
Albert:There's no need to worry for my sake.
As stiff and formal as his address sounded, inside, Albert could feel his heart speed up.

(I can't be having feelings like this.)
(I've never felt this way, and I don't know what to do about it.)

Albert looked down, lost in thought. Suddenly, Nico's voice rang out in the waiting room.
Nico:Princess, they've finished preparing your room.
Jily:Thank you!

(She'll only be here for a few days and she still needs him to accompany her?)

Albert couldn't help but notice how close Jily and Nico seemed.
His eyebrows creased at every smile they shared.
Nico seemed to notice the downward spiral of Albert's mood and cheerfully called out.
Nico:Is something wrong, Sir Albert?
Albert:No. It's nothing.

(What a nuisance.)

***

After Albert left, Nico showed Jily to the guest room.
Nico:You must be tired from your journey.
Jily:No, I'm fine because you're here with me, Nico.
Jily sighed as she sat down on the sofa.
Fatigued as she seemed, she still returned Nico's smile.

(She looks totally defenseless.)
(The two of us are so close,)
(but it's like she doesn't even register that I'm here.)

Nico:There's some tea laid out for you. Would you like a cup?
Jily:Thank you!
At Jily's pleased look as she held out her cup,
Nico couldn't stop his lips from twitching upward.
Nico:Princess, you have something on your lips.
Jily:I do?

(Don't forget that I'm a man who cares about you.)

Still smiling, Nico reached out to touch the princess's face.
He slowly ran a finger along her lips.
Jily:Nico...

(I got her.)

Nico giggled slightly at the look on Jily's face.
She looked as if she didn't know how to react.
Nico:I love it when you make that face, Jily.
Jily:What face?
Nico:I think I love it even more when you're confused.

(I do like her a lot.)

Just as the thought crossed his mind, there was a knock at the door.
Nico:Wait just a moment, please.
Nico opened the door to the hallway only to find Albert waiting for him.
Nico:Did you need something?
Albert:I just came to give Her Highness tomorrow's schedule.
The man didn't make any other comments, but Nico had a hunch.

(This guy might have a thing for Jily.)
(I should probably give him a warning.)

Nico:If it's for the princess, I can tell her for you.
Nico:Don't forget, I'm the one in charge of Her Highness during her stay in our kingdom.

(I know far more about Jily than he does.)

***

Despite Nico's practiced smile, his eyes were shaded with defiance.
Albert could tell Nico's true intentions right away.

(This boy has feelings for Wysteria's princess, as well.)

Albert:A word of advice.
Nico:And what might that be?
Albert:I very much doubt that royalty would give a little brat like you a second glance.
Albert:You should probably save those romantic dreams of yours for when you're asleep.

(A princess like her would never fall for a boy like him.)

Nico:Is that so?
Nico:You seem pretty confident. Should we put a wager on that, then?
Albert:As you wish.
Nico and Albert's smiles never wavered,
but their calculating stares told a different story...

  Alyn VS Leo

An endlessly blue sky stretched out above the palace that day.
Jily had asked Leo to come help her with her lessons in study.
Leo:Shall we have a quiz today, then?
Jily:Sure.
She set to work on solving the problems on the sheet of parchment Leo handed her.
Leo sat there with his chin propped up on his hand, watching over her progress.

(There's just something about Jily.)
(Her perseverance is so soothing.)

Lost in his thoughts, the time passed quicker than planned.
Jily soon put down her pen.
Jily:I'm done.
She looked satisfied as she passed her parchment over for Leo to check.
Leo:Wow, you didn't miss a single one.
Jily:Really? Oh, that's wonderful!
Jily smiled so happily that Leo couldn't help but stare.
Her innocent pleasure seemed to pierce through his heart.

(I just can't handle that expression of hers.)

Leo found it slightly frustrating that he couldn't keep his heart from skipping a beat.

(She doesn't have a clue how I really feel.)
(Maybe I should try to get her to notice.)

Leo:You got them all right, so here's your reward.
Jily:Reward?
Leo leaned forward and placed a hand on the armrest of Jily's chair.
She blinked up in confusion as the man leaned in closer.
Jily:And what kind of reward is this supposed to be?

(We're so close..)
(I wonder what her reaction will be?)

Suddenly, an icy voice broke the silence in the room.
Alyn:Hey.
Alyn:It's time.
Alyn frowned as he stared pointedly at Leo.

(What timing.)

Slowly, Leo moved away from Jily.

(Guess there's no helping it this time.)
(Alyn's interested in Jily, too, after all.)

While Leo was caught up in his thoughts, Alyn walked briskly into the room.
He stood in front of Jily to help her to her feet.
Alyn:Let's go.

(I wish he'd stop, though.)

Without another word, Leo took Jily's free hand in his.
Leo:I'll see you to the door, Jily.
Jily smiled at Leo, making Alyn's glare all the more pronounced.
Alyn:Hm.

(Sorry.)
(But I'm not going to give up on Jily that easily.)

***

Alyn was quick to pull Jily away from Leo's grasp and lead her to the stables for her lessons.
He straddled the horse and had Jily sit in front.
She listened carefully from within Alyn's arms as he taught her riding techniques.
Alyn:If you pull on the reins wrong, the horse gets confused, so be careful.
Jily:Got it.
Jily shifted her grip like Alyn had showed her and the horse started walking forward.
Alyn stared intently at the young woman before him.
He couldn't help but think back to Leo's attitude from earlier.

(Leo doesn't usually act up like that.)
(But I bet she didn't notice the difference.)

Alyn:Hey.
Alyn:What do you think of Leo?
Jily:Hm?
For a moment, Jily looked curious at Alyn's sudden question.
She quickly regained her composure and answered.
Jily:I suppose I have a lot of respect for him.
Alyn:Respect?
Jily:Yes. He's a wonderful teacher and very nice, as well.

(I don't want to hear her praise him. I shouldn't have brought it up.)
(Now what?)

Alyn sighed slightly.

(I can't believe that guy and I have the same taste in women.)

Alyn:So...
Alyn hesitated, leaning in closer to whisper into Jily's ear.
Alyn:What do you think of me?
Alyn:I'm curious.
Jily:Huh?

(I won't give up on her that easily.)
(I swear it.)

Resolve strengthened, Alyn tightened his arms around Jily.
His heart skipped a beat as he noticed a small smile cross her face...

  Byron VS Sid VS Robert

It was nighttime and the stars shone brightly overhead.
A magnificent dance party was underway at the palace of Stein.
Robert happened upon Jily as she walked down the corridor, and took the opportunity to escort her to the ballroom.

(It's so strange to think that she was once a student of mine.)
(Now she's a full-grown princess of Wysteria.)

Robert couldn't help but reminisce as he gazed at the sight she made in her lovely dress.
Some other elegant ladies of the palace took one look in their direction and began whispering to each other.
Woman 1:Isn't that Robert, the artist?
Woman 2:I'd always wanted to make his acquaintance! He's so handsome.
Jily:You're quite popular, Robert.
Robert:Not particularly.
Robert smiled in chagrin at Jily's praise.

(These court ladies don't really know me at all.)
(But...)

Suddenly, Robert came to a halt.

(I can always be myself when I'm with Jily.)

Jily:Robert? Is something wrong?
Jily looked curiously at Robert, wondering why he'd stopped walking.
Robert:It's nothing. I just noticed that we arrived at the ballroom.
Robert:Enjoy the festivities, Jily.
Jily:I will. Thank you very much!
The young princess curtsied before making her way onto the dance floor. Her dress swished daintily as she walked.
Robert kept his eyes on her back.

(I shouldn't think too hard about her.)
(There's nothing I can do at this point anyway.)

***

Sid took up his glass and looked around the hall. His gaze stopped when it reached Jily.

(So she's come, too.)

Sid slipped through the crowd and came up to Jily.
Sid:Hi there.
Jily:Oh, Sid! You're here, too?
Sid:That's right.

(She's pretty charming for a princess.)
(She's nothing like the other girls at the palace. I can't help but want to talk to her.)

Without realizing it, Sid stared at Jily.
An awkward silence settled between the two, and Jily looked up to smile at him.
Jily:It was nice seeing you again, Sid.

(She doesn't fall for my charm, either.)

Sid:Wait a moment.
Sid grabbed the princess's hand to keep her from moving away. He came in closer to whisper in her ear.

(And yet she stirs something within me.)

Sid:What should I do if I want to spend more time with you?
Right next to the princess, he could smell the faint scent of her rose perfume.

(Now's my chance.)
(I'll just have to let her know I'm interested.)

For a moment, Sid smiled back at the young women.
Then, Byron came up to the pair.
Byron:Thank you for coming, Princess.
Sid narrowed his eyes, huffing in frustration at the king. He didn't like the way the other man was smiling at Jily.
Byron:I'd like to speak with the princess, if you don't mind.
Sid:I see.

(Could it be?)

Disturbed by his train of thought, Sid murmured at Byron as he walked past.
Sid:Could you make it quick?
Sid:I was in the middle of something with her.
Byron did not appear phased by Sid's challenge. Instead, the corners of his lips curved upward.
Byron:Very well. However—
Byron:I do not intend to let you have the princess for yourself.
Without another word, Byron took Jily by the hand and led her away.
Sid's eyebrows creased in consternation as he watched the two.

(This doesn't put me in the best of moods.)
(But I suppose this could get interesting.)

***

Byron took Jily out on the balcony to see the expanse of dark blue sky.

(I wouldn't have guessed that Sid would be after the Wysterian princess.)
(However—)

Byron:Thank you for traveling so far to come here.
Jily:It was no trouble. I like Stein.
Jily:It's a beautiful country.
Byron could feel his heart thud in his chest at the lovely smile Jily gave him.

(I understand Sid's motivation.)

Byron:I see.
Byron murmured quietly as he let his fingers run along the back of Jily's hand.

(This princess is strangely captivating.)

Jily:King Byron?
A shy smile crossed Jily's face at the warm caress.
It made Byron smile.
Byron:There's something I wish to tell you.
Jily:Yes?
Byron:The next time I visit Wysteria, I would rather it be for pleasure, not work.
Byron:I wish to see you.

(Whenever we're apart, I miss her.)
(She's the only one who's ever made me feel this way.)

As Jily looked up at the beautiful stars overhead, Byron couldn't keep his eyes off his companion...

  Louis VS Giles

The sun filtered in through the windows of the palace that morning.
Giles was busy informing Jily about her schedule that day.
Giles:After this, you will start your dance lessons.
Jily:All right.
Jily looked a little nervous at the word:dance.
Giles raised an elegant eyebrow at the shift in her mood.

(Perhaps some distraction is in order.)

Gently, Giles reached out to Jily.
He touched his fingertips to the edge of her lips.
Giles:You seem a bit anxious about your lessons.
Giles:Don't worry. I know you'll do just fine.
Jily:Thank you, Giles.
Jily smiled back at Giles. The man could feel her expression tug at his heart.

(How peculiar.)
(When I see her smile, I want to keep her joy all to myself.)

***

Once the sun was high in the sky, Giles left to walk the corridors alone.
He could hear the sound of shuffling feet coming from the dance hall.

(Is that...?)

He peered into the room and saw Jily in the middle of the dance floor.

(So it was Jily after all.)

Giles:What are you doing, Your Highness?
Giles:Your dance lessons aren't for a while yet.
She stopped moving at the sound of Giles's voice before replying,
Jily:I didn't want to cause Louis too much trouble during the lesson.
Giles could feel his chest constrict as the woman before him said the other man's name.

(Strange. When I hear Duke Howard's name on her lips...)
(I can't help but think things unbefitting of a royal tutor.)

Giles:I believe a partner is necessary to better yourself at the steps.
With a most gentlemanly flair, Giles held out his hand to Jily.
Giles:I would be honored to be your dance partner.

(Perhaps if I continue in this manner,)
(She'll come to think that I'm the only one who can instruct her.)

Jily:Thank you so much, Giles.
Unaware of Giles's inner thoughts, Jily happily took his hand.
Giles wound his arm around her waist.
Gently, he pulled her closer to him.
Giles:Just let me lead you and try to follow the steps.
As Giles was about to put one foot forward, he hear a noise near the door.

(Are those footsteps?)

They were. Giles could hear the echo of boots in the corridor.
Shortly afterward, Louis swung open the door to the hall.
Louis:What are you doing?
Giles:Her Highness wanted to practice a bit before your lesson.
Louis:I see.
Silently, Louis and Giles sized each other up.
Under such an intense gaze, Giles couldn't help a short, mirthless laugh.

(I've never seen Duke Howard this worked up.)
(However...)

Giles:Now that you have arrived, you can begin the lesson.
Giles took a step back from Jily and met Louis' gaze head on.

(I will judge whether you are worthy of the princess.)
(And I have not deemed you so, yet.)

Louis:Hm.
With one more searching look at Louis, Giles smiled and bowed.
He then took his leave of the hall.

***

Jily then began her dance lessons with Louis.

(That look Giles gave me back there makes me uneasy.)

While Louis was pondering his current predicament, Jily fumbled one of the dance moves.
She accidentally stepped on Louis's foot.
Jily:I'm so sorry!
Louis:Don't worry.
Jily:Could you show me that particular move again?

(I love how eager she is to learn. It's cute.)

Louis:Sure.
Louis:Come a bit closer.
Jily:All right.
With a look of determination, Jily listened closely to Louis's instructions.
The purity of her expression pierced through Louis.

(I think this must be what it feels like to care for someone.)

Suddenly, Giles's face came unbidden to Louis's mind. He frowned slightly.

(But I think Giles might be thinking along the same lines as me.)

Jily:Are you angry, Louis?
Assuming that Louis's look of discontent was because of something she'd done, Jily wanted to fix it.

(I think that I-)

Louis:I might be angry, actually.
Louis stopped their dance and held Jily closer to him.
Louis:I saw Giles touch you earlier, and I didn't like at all.

(I don't want to give her to anyone.)

He couldn't stand the idea of someone taking Jily away from him.
Wanting her close, Louis tightened his arms around the princess.

(I think I may...)
(I may be in love with Jily.)

  Alyn

The stars shone brilliantly in the clear night sky.
I stood in front of my dresser and looked at my reflection in the mirror.

(My duties took so long I only just got back to my chamber.)
(I'd wanted to change my outfit before going to see Alyn, but I don't have time.)

I glanced at the grandfather clock in the corner and started to undo the ribbon behind my back.
In my haste, I couldn't get the knot untied.
Suddenly, I heard a knock at the door.
Alyn:Jily?

(Oh!)

Looking at the clock again, I saw that it was the time Alyn had said he'd come to see me.
Jily:One moment, I'm in the middle of changing.
Afraid that Alyn would see me halfway out of my clothes, I fought even harder with the knot at the back of my dress.
Despite my warning, Alyn came through the door and walked up behind me. He touched my back.
Alyn:The ribbon is all tangled.
Alyn:Were you in that much of a hurry to change?
I could see Alyn's eyes in the mirror in front of me. It made me all the more embarrassed.
Jily:I just wanted to change my clothes before you came to see me.
I met his gaze through the mirror.
For a second, Alyn's noble features looked amused.
Alyn:You've gotten this far.
Alyn:Guess I should give you a hand.
Alyn's face was schooled back into his usual stoic expression.
Even so, his fingers gently worked through the knotted ribbon at my back.
I couldn't help but stare at him as he pulled the ribbon apart. The attention made him laugh.
Alyn:You're staring.
Alyn:Do you really want to watch me?
Alyn ran his fingers down my neck.
Alyn:I can touch you more, if you want.
Jily:Alyn!

(He always teases me like this.)

Alyn smiled almost impishly.
But, he still faithfully helped me with my clothes.

(He's so considerate.)

A companionable silence filled the room. Calmed by the atmosphere, I asked Alyn a question.
Jily:Alyn? Do you love me?
Suddenly, Alyn stopped moving.
He didn't respond, except to draw his eyebrows together in consternation
I quickly tried to take back my words.
Jily:I'm sorry! I didn't mean to ask something so strange.
Alyn took a short breath, and then looked back at my reflection.
Alyn:If I didn't love you, I wouldn't do this.
Alyn:Got it?
Jily:So then-!
I spun around to look at him, but he kissed me before I could finish my thought.
He kept kissing me until my cheeks were flushed a bright red.
Jily:Mm...
I let Alyn pull me closer to him.
I could feel his warmth and affection through his embrace.
Jily:I love you, too, Alyn.
Alyn:I know.
Alyn:You don't need to speak now. Just close your eyes.
He kissed me fervently as we whispered to each other.
I basked in Alyn's love as it grew through the night...

1335080746-2984577752

  Louis

The night sky glittered with hundreds of stars.
A large number of lords, ladies, and other aristocrats had gathered at the palace for a dance party.
I was waltzing through the hall with Louis leading the way.

(Ouch!)

Jily:I'm so sorry! I think I just missed a step back there.
Louis:Don't worry about it.
Louis:You look stunning dancing like this.
Intimidated as I was by my surroundings, the small smile on Louis's face helped.
Louis:You have nothing to worry about. Trust me.

(You always know how to put me at ease, Louis.)

I tried to relax like Louis said and let him lead me through the waltz.
I could feel my heart soar as we spun on the dance floor.
Occasionally our eyes would meet and I swore I saw merriment in Louis's expression.
Louis:Aww...
Louis:Looks like the song has ended.
Jily:Looks like.

(I wish I could dance the next one with Louis, too.)

Nobleman:Your Highness. May I request the next dance?
While I was debating asking Louis, one of the other noblemen came to ask me for a dance first.
Louis:Until next time, then.
Before I could say anything, Louis bowed and left me to my new dance partner.

(If only I could stay with Louis.)

I was a little disappointed, but I dutifully took the hand of my partner and began the next dance.

***

As soon as the dance ended, I went out on the balcony to look for Louis.
I could see him staring up at the night sky by himself.
Jily:Louis? What are you doing out here?
He turned around as soon as I said his name. He looked distracted.
Louis:Oh, Jily.
He spoke so quietly I wasn't certain if he'd said my name.
Then Louis pulled me close to him and held me in his arms.
Jily:Louis?
It was such a sudden movement my heart started racing.
Louis brought his face closer to mine and peered straight into my eyes.
Louis:Actually.
Louis:I wanted to be with you longer, Jily.

(This is a welcome surprise!)

My eyes widened at his unexpected words.
Louis blinked his long eyelashes and looked at me curiously.
Louis:Jily? You look oddly happy.
Jily:I am! I mean, I was thinking the same thing.
Louis:Really?
Louis' eyes widened and he smiled briefly.
The arms around my torso tightened in a stronger hug.
Louis:You make me nervous. You're too cute sometimes.
Louis:Don't do anything like this with other people, okay?
He gently ran his finger along my lips.
But it was the longing in his voice that made my heart beat faster.
Slowly, he brought his mouth to mine.
Louis:Promise me, Jily.
His sweet whisper rang in my ears long after he'd begun to kiss me in earnest.
I was swept away in the warmth of his arms...

1335080746-2984577752

  Giles

It was the middle of the night and the moon shone bright in the sky.
Unable to sleep, I took a walk through the palace.

(It's so quiet in here at night.)

I tried to keep my footsteps light in the corridor.
Even so, my heels made a slight clack as I walked.
Giles:Jily?
I turned around at the sound of my name to see Giles standing there with a lamp.
Giles:It's dangerous to be out at this time of night.
Jily:I'm sorry. I couldn't sleep.
Jily:I tried to be quiet, but these shoes weren't cooperating.
Giles was always so busy, I was truly sorry to have made him get out of bed.
My companion breathed a short sigh.
Giles:It appears that you do not understand, Jily.
As he whispered, Giles took my hand in his.
Gently, he pulled my hand toward him until it was close enough to reach with his mouth.
Giles:When I said 'dangerous,' I meant it.
As Giles got closer, I stumbled back until I was nearly against the wall.
He took the hand he'd kissed and pressed it to the wall behind me.
Jily:And what exactly might this 'danger' you speak of be?
Sensing where things were going, I grinned up at him defiantly.
I saw a brief smile flash across his face.
Giles:This is your punishment for wandering off.
As he made the declaration, Giles covered my lips with his.
Jily:Mn...!
Giles's palm came up to cup my cheek, angling it upward for a deeper kiss.
His soft lips traveled from my eyelids to my nose, mapping their way across my face.
It almost tickled.

(He calls this punishment.)

His loving kisses made my heart beat faster. When I looked back at Giles, I saw a serious expression on his features.
Giles:If something were to happen to you, I don't know what I'd do.
Jily:Huh?
Giles:I can no longer imagine a life without you, Jily.

(I had no idea that Giles cared so deeply.)

Jily:Thank you very much.
Now that Giles had let go of my hands, I wound my arms tightly around his back.
Apparently confused at my actions, Giles looked at me searchingly.
Giles:You tempt me.
Giles:I was planning to take this slow, but you seem to be encouraging me.
I tilted my head as Giles spoke and before I could reply, he pressed his lips to mine again.
His tongue probed at my mouth and stole my breath away.
I felt a jolt through my core at our shared passion.
Giles:You're so lovely.
Giles:I love you more than anyone else.
My body felt hotter and hotter the more sweet things Giles whispered to me.
I held on tighter as Giles began to kiss me more...

1335080746-2984577752

  Leo

Small patches of clouds passed overhead in the otherwise blue sky.
As usual, Leo was helping me with my lessons.
Leo:I'm surprised you memorized so much in such a short time.
Leo checked over my answers, nodding in satisfaction.
Leo:I think we can stop here for today.
He smiled as he spoke, though I couldn't help but feel disappointed.

(I was hoping to stay with Leo a bit longer.)
( Time flies when I'm around him.)
(But I'm sure he's just as busy as I am.)

As I straightened up my materials, I surreptitiously looked at Leo.
He was already looking in my direction and smiled again as he caught my eye.
Leo:It's so difficult when you make that face.
Leo:You make me want to stay here with you.
Jily:I wasn't trying, you know.
With a tug of my arm, Leo pulled me from my chair and into his lap.
Then he held me bridal-style as he searched out my lips.
Jily:Leo!
His kisses were soft on my lips; undemanding and perfect.
Soon, however he switched from a gentle grip on my legs to a teasing tickle at the backs on my knees.
I squirmed at the light touch, heart clenching in my chest.

(He's such a tease!)

I wriggled in Leo's arms, and turned to the side to break the kiss.
This left my ear unprotected from Leo's wandering lips. He whispered as he kissed the side of my face.
Leo:I've still got a bit of time before the next order of business.
Leo:Would you mind if I continued this with you?
Jily:I wouldn't mind at all.
My heart was loud in my ears, but I nodded. Leo put his hand to my chin and tilted my head.
The next kiss he gave me was long and passionate.

(Wow...)

I leaned into Leo's warmth, consumed by his kiss.
His passion made my own temperature rise.
I could feel my knees get weak as my heart thudded louder in my chest.
Leo:You're so cute, Jily.
Leo's placed his warm hands on my back.
Gently he guided me back against the sofa.
Careful not to put too much weight on me, Leo lay down at my side.
Leo:You make me so happy.
Leo:Especially when you want me to stay with you.

(Me too, Leo.)

This time I leaned up to catch his lips before he finished whispering.
I could feel both of our heartbeats as he covered me with his body.
It was both embarrassing and exhilarating to know that he could feel my heart's reaction.
Jily:I love you, Leo.
I murmured my declaration. Without even realizing it, I entwined my fingers with Leo's.
Leo:Jily...
Leo looked startled for a moment before his eyes softened with affection.
Leo:Stay by my side forever-
Leo:my beautiful princess.
He gripped my hand tightly.
I couldn't tell who leaned in first, but we fell willingly into the next round of kisses.

The rain had cleared and there were white, fluffy clouds in the sky.
I was enjoying a rare day off with Byron. He had joined me for a soak in the luxurious bath.

(This isn't the first time we've bathed together.)
(But I haven't gotten used to be this exposed.)

As I considered my embarrassment, I became tenser.
Byron put a gentle hand on my shoulder.
Byron:Jily.

(Ack!)

I turned toward him in surprise only to find him waiting for me with a kiss.
As soon as he pulled away, I could see a smile on his face.
Byron:You're getting flushed.
Jily:That's because you-!
I cut myself off before I could reply.

(I can't tell him that I'm flustered just by being here with him.)
(I'll be even worse off if he gets any closer.)

I was too embarrassed to elaborate.
Perplexed at my hesitance, Byron nevertheless threaded his fingers through my hair.
Byron:What is it that you like about me, anyway?
Jily:Huh?
I had a hard time coming up with an answer so suddenly. I started to speak, but Byron just pulled me closer.
He came close enough to whisper in my ear.
Byron:I assume there's a reason you're blushing.
Jily:Well, yes...
I still couldn't quite find the words to explain myself.
As I floundered, Byron put his thumb under my chin to make me meet his eyes.
Jily:You're always so kind to me, King Byron.
Jily:And I really care for you because of that.
Byron:I see.
His face looked happy despite his small smile.
Underwater, Byron put a hand behind my knees and lifted me up to sit in his lap.
Byron:Am I always as nice as you say?
Byron:Perhaps we should test your theory?
Byron's fingers began to trace lines on my body, pushing my wet hair to one side to reach my neck.
He kissed the newly exposed skin.
Jily:Oh...
Slowly he moved his mouth up my neck to my cheek. Then he bit down lightly on my earlobe.
It tickled, but wasn't nearly as much as I wanted.
As I trembled at the sensation, Byron kissed my lips again.
Byron:I enjoy listening to the sounds you make.
Byron:Continue. I want to hear.
His teasing whisper embarrassed me to no end.
But the deeper he kissed me,
the more I felt my affection for the king strengthen.

(Whether he's being kind or teasing me...)
(I love everything about him.)

Byron:Stay with me, Jily.
Jily:King Byron...
He breathed a sigh of longing as he leaned back in for more. I was pulled even closer to his chest.
Satisfied with his attentions, I called out to him again and again.

(I'm certain.)
(I love Byron with all of my heart.)

We clasped our wet hands together.
As the night dragged on, we took our time enjoying the bath and each other...

  Nico

It was a beautiful night with the moon high in the sky.
Nico had taken me by the hand and led me into a room I'd never seen before.
Jily:Nico, where are we?
When I turned to look at him, Nico had an impish smile on his face.
Nico:I figured we could be alone together in here.
Nico was leaning against the wall, but that didn't stop him from pulling me into his arms.
I laid my cheek against his warm chest as he pet my head.
Nico:This is a secret room that no one else knows about.
Jily:Oh, really?

(We haven't had the chance to be together in a while.)
(I'm so glad we have this moment to ourselves.)

I looked up happily at Nico and saw him return my gaze.
Nico:Can I kiss you?
The look in his eyes and the want in his voice made my heart race.
Jily:Okay.
I nodded and closed my eyes. I wasn't disappointed when I felt Nico's soft mouth on mine.
Nico held me tighter, even after we broke apart.
He sighed sadly before speaking again.
Nico:Actually, Princess.
Nico:There's something I want to confess.
Jily:Confess?
Nico:Yeah. Sometimes when I see you having fun with other people, I get jealous.
Nico:I hate having to sit and watch you without being able to do anything.
Nico furrowed his eyebrows, like it frustrated him that he couldn't control his reactions.
Nico:There's something I want to do to you, Jily.

(Do to me?)

I tilted my head in confusion.
Nico responded by slowly running his fingers from my neck, to my collarbone, before finally slipping my sleeve from my shoulder.
Nico:Right here. I want to leave a mark right here. May I?

(What?)

I knew just what Nico was getting at. It made my heart pound in anticipation.
Nico hardly waited for a response before leaning down to reach the soft skin between my collarbone and shoulder.
Jily:Mmm...
I could feel a pressure of teeth and suction where Nico had touched me just a moment before.
It made me shudder, but I didn't move away. Slowly, Nico drew back to meet my eyes.
Nico:This shows that you're spoken for.
Even though Nico was smiling, it looked different from his usual cheerfulness.
It struck me how much more serious he looked.

(He should know that I've only got eyes for him.)

Much as I wanted to say it, the words got stuck in my throat.
Instead, Nico leaned his forehead against mine.
Nico:I'm happiest when I'm with you.
Nico:Be my beloved forever, Jily.
Jily:Nico...
As soon as I whispered his name, Nico stole my breath with another kiss.
We took our time knowing that no one would bother us besides the bright glow of the moon...

  Robert

The sun's rays lit up the sky on that sunny weekend.
I had volunteered to model for one of Robert's paintings.
It was time for our session, so I knocked on the door to his studio.
Robert:Thank you for coming to help me.
Jily:It was no trouble at all.
I easily replied, looking around at the layout of the studio.

(It's full of art supplies. I suppose that's to be expected.

Robert saw how my eyes widened as I took in my surroundings. It made him laugh.

(Uh-oh, I think I gave off the wrong impression.)

Jily:I didn't mean to gawk at all of your work!
Robert:Don't worry. I'm just happy that you're interested in what I do.
Robert:Come this way.
Robert took my hand and led me further into the studio.
He brought me to a small chair placed in front of an empty canvas.
Once I was situated, he began to sketch an outline on the expanse of white.
Robert:Hm.

(I knew he'd have to stare at me in order to complete the drawing.)

His look of concentration made him seem a little different.
It made my heart beat quicker.

(Still, it's strange thinking that I knew him when I was younger.)

Remembering my silly crush as a child, I could feel my cheeks get hot.

(I really looked up to him as my teacher.)
(He's just as impressive now that I'm older.)

Robert:Jily?
Jily:Oh, um, yes?
Lost in my memories, I jerked when he called my name.
Flustered, I tried to hide how my thoughts had wandered.
Robert stood up and came closer to me.
Robert:Sorry, but could you angle your head to one side for me?
Jily:Like this?
Robert:Yes, that works.
Robert:Oh, maybe just a little more toward me?
With a gentle touch, Robert tilted my chin how he wanted it.
Once I was looking at him again, he stopped.
He had the same look of concentration when he looked at me as he did when facing the canvas.
Jily:Is something wrong, Robert?
Robert:No, nothing.
Robert I was just thinking about how much you've matured.
Jily:Huh?
Robert:You're stunning, Jily.
The peaceful smile on his face pierced my heart. I could feel the blood pounding in my veins.
Robert:Now just hold that position, please.
Without another word, Robert let his hand drop and walked back to his easel.

(My heart is beating so fast, I wonder if I'll be able to act normally around Robert after today.)

Keeping my head stationary, I let my eyes wander over my old friend...

  Sid

A light rain had started falling that evening, and the town was shrouded in darkness.
Sid and I were using my day off to window shop.
Luck wasn't on our side, however, since neither of us had brought an umbrella.
Sid:Are you okay?
Jily:I'm doing fine, considering the circumstances.
Sid pulled me through the drops of rain as quickly as he could.
He kept glancing over his shoulder to make sure I was keeping pace.
Sid:If only we could find some shelter from this downpour.
Sid:Let's try that alleyway!
Jily:Okay!
Once we ducked into the alley, we managed to find an overhang and catch our breath.

(What a waste of a perfectly good date.)

Even though I knew there was no helping it, the weather still got me down.
Sid slipped an arm around my shoulders and held me close.
Sid:We're pretty soaked.
Sid:Are you cold?
As he asked, Sid rubbed his hands against my shoulders in an attempt to warm me up.
I could feel the heat from his body as he touched me.
It made my mood improve a bit from the regret I'd been feeling.

(Sid's a little intimidating at first, but he's actually a softie once you get to know him.)

I already knew the kindness he was capable of, but it still made me happy having him worry about me so much.
I rested my head against his shoulder.
Sid:What?
Sid:Don't tell me you're embarrassed by how close we are right now?
Sid raised an eyebrow like a challenge as he looked my way.
He made no further comment on my actions, and simply continued to warm me up.
Sid:I guess it's not so bad when it rains.
Jily:But we're stuck in this alley because of it.
Sid:Exactly. It's the perfect excuse to be all alone with you.
As he talked, Sid peered into my face. I could see the edges of his lips quirk upward.
Jily:Are you trying to feed me a line?
I laughed, trying to keep my cool in spite of my fluttering heart.
Sid held on to my shoulder a little tighter.
Sid:Did you think I was joking?
He sounded so serious, I looked over. Sid then wound his other arm around me to pull me closer.
I was completely enveloped in his arms, our bodies pressed closely together.
His warmth overpowered me almost as much as the kiss that followed. It shook me to the core.
Jily:Mn...
What started out as a light kiss soon grew more passionate.
Sid did all the work. All I had to do was follow his lead through the kiss and steal what breath I could.
I grabbed on to Sid's shirt as he slid his hands up to cup my cheeks.
Sid:Tell me you love me.
Sid:I really want to hear you say it right now.

(Oh, Sid.)

Jily:I do love you, Sid.

(From the bottom of my heart.)

I wasn't able to tell him all of my feelings.
But when I tried to say some of what I felt, Sid's expression softened a bit, his expression gentler than usual.
Sid:Me, too.
He whispered as he came closer for another kiss.

(I think he was right.)
(Sometimes it's not so bad when it rains.)

The sound of the rain dripping from the eaves continued.
Sid and I stayed as close as possible to keep warm...

  Albert

There was a refreshing breeze blowing by on my day off.
I had been called to the library, and sat side by side with Albert to do some reading.

(It's so hard to sit still.)

The history book I was halfway through was quite interesting.
Nevertheless, I had a hard time concentrating with Albert sitting so close.

(I wonder if Albert's having a hard time focusing on his book.)

I tried to glance nonchalantly over at my companion.
Albert:Oh!
At exactly the same time, Albert happened to look up and catch my eye.
Surprised to find him looking my way, I quickly turned back to my book.
Albert:Is something the matter?
Jily:Oh, no. It's nothing.
I tried my best to brush it off, though my heart was still beating fast from getting caught staring.
Jily:I'm just having a hard time concentrating.
Laughing a little to show that it wasn't a big deal, I kept looking at my book.
Albert blinked and pushed his glasses up.
Albert:I see. Is something making it difficult for you?
My heart skipped a beat.
I chanced another glance at Albert. Perhaps it was my imagination, but his cheeks looked a little red.

(Maybe I surprised him?)
(Maybe we were both thinking along the same lines?)

Jily:Well...
Jily:I have a hard time acting calm when I sit so close to someone I like.
Albert:You what?
I took a chance and stared straight at Albert's blushing face.
He tried to regain his composure with a few deep breaths.
Expression serious, Albert looked into my eyes.
Albert:You should be careful.
Albert:I have a hard time keeping my feelings in check when you say things like that.
He reached out and touched my shoulder. Gaining confidence, he came close enough to put his arm around me.
Finally, he boldly kissed my lips.

(Albert.)

Nervousness made Albert's kiss clumsy and a little too chaste.
Knowing now that we felt the same, even his brief touch was enough to make me squirm.
Albert:Jily.
Albert's voice had become low and gruff as he said my name.
This time when he kissed me, it grew more passionate by the minute.

(I'm so happy he's making a move....
(But maybe I need to let him know what kind of kisses I like.)

The deeper he kissed me, the tighter I held onto his arms.
Albert seemed to notice my desperate hold on him and broke away from the kiss.
Albert:I'm so sorry. I didn't realize—
His brow furrowed, worried that he'd been overwhelming me unintentionally.
Jily:No, that wasn't what I meant! I don't want you to stop, Albert.
Jily:But maybe we could take a little more time to enjoy each other?
Looking up at Albert, I gently tugged at his necktie to keep him from pulling away.
Albert:You are too much.
Again, Albert reached out to pull me toward him.
Albert:I hope you'll only ever look at me like that.
Albert:I love you, Jily.
Heart on his sleeve, I could see the affection in Albert's gaze.
As he came closer, I closed my eyes in anticipation of his next sweet kiss...

June 2015 - Fashion Grab Bag

Take time off from your royal duties on a private vacation for two.

  Alyn

It was late evening, the sky overhead full of twinkling stars.
I'd left the palace and was on my way to visit another country in the region.

(I know we have to stop for the night since it's so far away—but I never thought it'd be such a big deal to set up camp.)

I sat waiting in the carriage as I'd been told, gazing out at the hustle and bustle going on outside.
At last the door opened, and Alyn offered me his hand.
Alyn:Don't trip.
I picked up the luggage boxes I'd brought with me, and took Alyn's hand as I stepped out of the carriage.

***

(When I'm with Alyn like this, it feels almost like we're on a romantic trip together, just the two of us.)

I glanced up at Alyn, then paused to adjust my grip on the boxes I was carrying.

(I may have packed too much, though—these are heavier than I thought.)

Alyn glanced down at me, and then sighed softly.
Alyn:Seriously, you.
Without another word, he reached out to take the boxes from me.
Jily:Careful, Alyn, they're heavy.
I resisted letting go for a moment, and Alyn frowned at me in confusion.
Alyn:Of course they are, that's why I'm trying to help.
I couldn't help but giggle at the seriousness in his expression.
Jily:Alright then—thank you.
I let go, and Alyn shifted his grip, tucking the boxes under one arm and reaching out to take my hand with the other hand.
Alyn:Now don't let go of my hand.

***

We stepped into the forest, and suddenly the light dimmed, only a spattering of moonlight filtering down through the trees.

(I can hardly even see the ground—I guess Alyn's taking extra care of me because he's worried I'll trip.)

I glanced down at our hands with a small smile, and Alyn shifted his fingers, twining them carefully with mine.

(We're alone in a dim forest, holding hands, I can't help but feel—)

Jily:This is kind of romantic, you know.
I turned to look at Alyn as I spoke, and he slowed to a stop.
Alyn:Well then, if this is so romantic, and we're all alone—
Alyn:What comes next?
Jily:Well—
I looked up at him, startled by the sudden impish tone in his voice,
and a moment later his lips pressed lightly against mine in a soft kiss.
He pulled back slightly, smirking, and then kissed me again, longer this time.
At last our lips parted, and I sighed softly, looking up at him.
Alyn:Your expression says you want more.
Jily:As if!
I laughed and poked him gently in the ribs, and he grinned at me and began to walk forward again.

(I love it when we have quiet moments like this.)
(I don't ever want to let you go.)

I squeezed his fingers gently, hurrying my step to stay close by his side.

  Louis

It was evening, and the stars twinkled in the dark sky overhead.
Louis and I were visiting a mansion by the lake, spending a secret holiday together.

(But today's the last day of our holiday.)

Louis lay beside me, sleeping peacefully, and I gazed down at him.

(We've had such a wonderful time.)
(But I don't know when I'll get to see him again.)
( It's so hard to for us to find moments where we can be together like this.)

I'd been lying in bed for hours, unable to sleep—my mind just keep ticking over the same thoughts.

(I wish I could just enjoy this moment instead of worrying about what comes next, but tonight—)

I adjusted my pillow again, sighing in frustration, and Louis opened his eyes, just a little.
Louis:What's wrong?
Jily:It's nothing—don't worry.
I rolled over quickly, turning my face away and burying it in my pillow.

***

The next day—

(My eyes look awful today—all bloodshot and puffy. I guess it's because I had trouble sleeping?)

I finished getting ready and stared at myself in the mirror, pulling the brim of my hat down over my eyes.

(I wish I had a better way to hide it, but this will have to do. I don't want Louis to worry or think something's wrong.)

At that moment there was a knock at the door, and Louis stepped into the room.
Louis:Are you ready?
I glanced over at him and nodded, and he walked slowly over to where I stood.
Louis:Why are you wearing a hat?
Jily:Well, it's sunny outside.

(I know that was a lame excuse, but what else can I say?)

I bit my lip a little, and suddenly Louis reached out and lifted the brim of my hat, revealing my face.

(Oh, damn!)

I raised my eyes automatically, and my gaze met his.
He stared at me in surprise for a moment, his eyes wide and concerned.
I dropped my gaze, feeling embarrassed, and Louis suddenly let go of the hat brim again.
Louis:Don't worry. I won't look.

(Oh, Louis—)

A soft silence fell between us, and at last I spoke, because I needed to say something.
Jily:I know this sounds silly, but I couldn't sleep last night—I kept wondering when I'll get to see you again—
Before I could finish speaking, Louis reached out and pulled me close, his arms tight around my waist.
Jily:Louis, I'm—
I looked up without thinking, and Louis lowered his head, ducking under the brim of my hat.
His lips pressed against mine, soft and reassuring.
I closed my eyes, letting the warmth of his kiss spread through me and ease my fears.
His lips moved away slowly, and when I glanced up again, I realized that his cheeks were slightly red.
Louis:Well then, I'll just have to stay with you forever. Is that okay with you?
I couldn't help but smile up at him, nodding slightly, and he lowered his face towards mine again.

(I'll be the happiest girl in the world if you do that, Louis.)

I whispered the words in my heart as his lips met mine again,
and we shared another kiss that was even sweeter than the last.

  Giles

The sky was bright and blue overhead, with barely a cloud in sight.
I was visiting the town as I did regularly to inspect the current state of affairs.

(I'm glad to have so many people recognize me and want to say hello, but—)

As we walked through the streets, people kept smiling at me and greeting me.

(I can't help but be a little sad that I can't walk around town anonymously like I used to.)

I sighed softly to myself, looking down at the ground, and then I heard Giles's voice.
Giles:Is something the matter?
Jily:No, it's nothing.
I glanced up and gave him a quick smile, before returning my gaze to the streets around me.

***

A few days later, I was finally able to take a day off.
Giles decided to take me to a town I'd never been to before.

(It's so pretty here!)

I started to step down from the carriage, but I paused to take in the sight of the street in front of me.
Suddenly Giles reached out and caught me around the waist with both hands, lifting me into the air.
Jily:Giles! What are you doing?
I blinked at him in surprise, and he smiled as he set me down on the ground.
Giles:In a dress like that you might well trip getting down.
I smiled ruefully and shook my head a little, glancing down at my long dress.

(He'll use any excuse—though he did tell me to wear a simple dress today rather than a gown. I wonder why?)

***

Giles closed the door of the carriage, and then turned back to face me, reaching out to take my hand.
Jily:Giles, we can't—

(Our relationship is a secret—if someone were to see us holding hands...)

I started to pull my hand away, but Giles tightened his grip, pulling me gently towards him.
Giles:The people in this town have no idea what the princess looks like.
Giles smiled as he glanced down at my dress.
Giles:And even if there is someone here who knows what the princess looks like,
Giles:I doubt they'll recognize you without your regal princess gowns.

(I don't believe it—how did he know that I wanted to walk around a town like a regular person?)

I stared up at him in wonder, and he reached out and touched my lips, his fingers gentle.
Giles:Don't forget, Jily—
Giles:No matter how much everyone else looks at you and sees only the princess,
Giles:to me you are a regular person. And a very special one.
He pulled me closer to the carriage, hiding us from prying eyes, and wrapped his arms around me.
His lips pressed softly against mine in a kiss, and I closed my eyes.

(I feel the same, Giles. You're not just a tutor or an advisor—)

I reached up and wrapped my arms around his neck, eagerly responding to his kiss.

(You're someone who's very special to me.)

  Byron

It was a beautiful day, the sky filled with warm, gentle sunshine.
I'd been given a short holiday, and so I was visiting Stein to spend time with Byron.

(I wonder if he'll notice.)

I reached up to touch my new hairstyle as I sat waiting for Byron.
At that moment there was a knock at the door, and Byron stepped into the room.
Byron:We're always stuck in the castle. I imagine you can't really relax here either.
Byron:Why don't we go out somewhere today?
Byron smiled as he spoke, and I couldn't help but smile back at him.

***

Byron decided to take me to visit a small mansion on the very outskirts of Stein.

(This is so nice—normally we never get to go anywhere like this.)

As we made our way through the mansion, I suddenly found myself stopping.

(That door has such beautiful ornamentation—I've never seen anything like it.)

Jily:King Byron, what's that room for?
I turned to look up at him curiously, and he shrugged slightly.
Byron:Open it and take a look.

***

I opened the door and stepped into the room, gazing around in wonder.
It was lavishly outfitted, and there were two of everything, from the teacups to the cushions.

(Is this a special guest room for two?)

As I stood there taking in the room, Byron spoke quietly, his voice relaxed.
Byron:It's a room for married couples.
Jily:Oh—

(We're not actually married yet—it seems a bit weird to be in here with him.)

Jily:I've never seen one like this before.
I spoke lightly, but I decided it was time to leave before I felt any weirder, so I turned towards the door.
But as I did so—
Jily:Ahh!
Byron caught me around the waist, pulling me towards him.
As I turned to look up at him, he gently caught hold of a lock of my hair, twining his fingers in it.
Byron:Did you change your hairstyle?
The honest surprise in his gaze made me want to giggle, but I kept my expression calm as I nodded up at him.
He smiled suddenly, and leaned closer to kiss the lock of hair.
Byron:You look beautiful.
Jily:Thank you.

(I did it for you—I'm glad you like it.)

I smiled gladly back at him, and his hand moved to cup my chin, lifting my face towards him.
Byron:When you look as beautiful as you do—
Byron:Well, I may have to hurry up and make it clear to the world that you're mine.
Jily:King Byron—

(Are you trying to say you're going to make sure we're married soon?)

Byron leaned forward, his gaze twinkling mischievously,
and before I could say another word, he pressed his lips against mine in a passionate kiss.

  Leo

It was mid afternoon, the clouds streaming slowly across a clear blue sky.
I'd been allowed to take a holiday, and Leo and I were visiting a tiny cottage together.
The one stipulation from Giles was that no one in the palace was to know.

(It's so nice to be able to sit in a place like this and relax with a book, and Leo at my side)

There was a beautiful hill covered with flowers in front of the cottage, and I was sitting there, reading.
Leo was sprawled in the grass beside me, and after awhile he rolled over to peer at my book.
Leo:What are you reading?
It was a fantasy novel, and I turned the book towards him and showed him the cover.
Beneath the title was a picture of a broad lake, sparkling in the sunshine, and a single bird flying overhead.
Jily:You know, I've always thought it must be wonderful to be able to soar through the sky like that.
Leo raised his gaze at my words, looking up at me with mischievous eyes.
Leo:Would you like me to grant that wish?
I blinked down at him, and then laughed softly, reaching out to ruffle his hair.

***

The next day—

(It feels like we've been walking for ages.)

Leo had led me away from the cottage, and we'd walked through the woods together, holding hands.
At last we'd reached a small house, and he'd told me to close my eyes as he led me inside.
Leo:Don't open them yet.
Jily:I know.
I kept my eyes closed as Leo led me by the hand, until at last I felt a sudden gentle breeze against my cheek.
Leo:Okay, you can open them now.
I slowly opened my eyes and looked around me.

(Oh wow!)

We were standing on a balcony, with a huge lake stretching out directly below us.
The sun shone down on the lake, and the entire surface seemed to sparkle and shine.
Jily:It's like we're soaring over the lake—
Everything suddenly clicked then, and I looked up at Leo with a start.

(This is just like the cover of the book I showed him!)

Leo must have seen the realization in my expression, and he smiled suddenly.
Leo:No matter what it is you wish for—
Leo:I'll do whatever I can to grant it.
He reached out his hand, his fingers gently stroking my cheek.
Leo:So I hope you'll grant my wish too.
His expression seemed to soften then, and he leaned slowly towards me.
His soft lips pressed against mine in a warm, gentle kiss, and I closed my eyes.
At last our lips parted again, and he gazed down at me steadily.
Leo:I want you to stay with me, always.

(Oh, Leo—there's no wish I want to grant more.)

I nodded without hesitation, and pressed up against him, my lips catching his in another kiss.
