（Prologue）

On the anniversary of the first Wysterian King's birthday, an old lovers' custom lives on...

回想＆說話的格式，從：

    〝Giles：Okay.〞

改成：

Prologue：

The sunlight filtered through the leaves of the trees,
creating a beautiful pattern on the grass in the gardens.
I was on my way to the library,
carrying a stack of books that I wanted to return.
I balanced the books on one hand as I pushed open the door with the other, and stepped inside.

（Oh, I wasn't expecting company!）

Jily "Leo!"
Leo was sitting near the window,
his gaze focused on a book in his lap, but he looked up at my voice.
Leo "Hello, Jily. Are you here to return all those books?"
Jily "I am. But then I'm going to borrow some more."
Leo "You're all fired up! Are you preparing for the palace's open day?"
In one week's time it was the anniversary of the first king of Wysteria's birthday.
To celebrate, the palace would be open to the public for the day.
Jily "That's right. All the preparations are going fine, but still—I just want to be as ready as possible."
Leo "Of course. Still, that means you've got a lot that you need to do.
Leo "Let me tell you an interesting story to help take your mind off it for a bit."
Jily "What sort of story?"
Leo "Basically, it's a story of love.
Leo "It's an old tale that's been handed down through the staff here in the palace.
Leo "It's a custom that started with the very first King and Queen of Wysteria."
Leo reached up and removed his glasses before he went on.
Leo "Every year, on their anniversary, the two of them would gift each other with a piece of jewelry.
Leo "Over time the story changed,
Leo "and now it's said that giving a gift to your beloved on the king's birthday is proof of your love."

（What a beautiful story!）

Jily "I've never heard anyone talk about that before!"
Leo "Yeah, I haven't heard the staff discussing it much recently.
Leo "But when I first became a bureaucrat, I used to hear about it all the time.
Leo "They talked about it being 'a special present on a special day.'"

（Proof of your love, huh? I like the way that sounds.
（I think I'd like to give him something like that.）

An image of his face flashed through my mind, and my heart skipped a beat.
At that moment a small bird chirped loudly at the window,
and Leo and I both turned to look.
Then Leo looked my way again, his eyes dancing all of a sudden.
Leo "Let me tell you something else interesting.
Leo "Take a look down in the courtyard."

（Leo— you could just tell me what you see!）

But I hurried over to the window,
and caught my breath at the familiar figure I saw down there...
