Prologue：
It was a quiet afternoon, and the sunshine seemed unusually gentle as it filled the courtyard with warmth.
I was taking a short break from my duties, and I'd stepped outside to get some fresh air.
Nico had come with me, and the two of us sat down together on the edge of the fountain.
I gazed at the flowers, nodding gently in the breeze, and smiled as their soft scent drifted towards me.
Nico "You know, Jily, you've been so busy that I forgot to ask this, but—
Nico "What did you think of the opera we went to see the other night?"
A new theater had been opened in town recently, and I'd been invited to attend its first performance a few nights earlier.
As my attendant, Nico had gone with me, but I'd been so caught up in the story that I'd almost forgotten he was there for most of it.
（And it was such a wonderful story!）
The heroine had been a princess, not so different from myself, and one scene in particular had really stayed with me.
She'd been attacked by villains while her knights had been away, but just when all seemed lost, her lover had saved her.
Jily "It was really impressive! I got so completely drawn into the story.
Jily "Still, what got you thinking about it now?"
Nico "Well, I thought it was really interesting, too!
Nico "But I was just thinking about how stuff like that really can happen in real life, you know?"
Nico's expression turned serious as he spoke, and I studied him curiously, wondering where he was going with this.
Jily "Stuff like what, exactly?"
Nico "Well, we've got plenty of knights here in the palace to protect you, right?
Nico "But that doesn't mean they're with you every second of every day, does it?"
（Well, you're not wrong.
（I mean, I identified really strongly with the heroine because she was a princess, just like me.）
I hadn't been surprised when she'd been attacked while she was all alone, because it was the sort of thing that happened.
Jily "No, they're not.
Jily "Don't worry, though. I'm always being careful."
I smiled reassuringly at Nico, not wanting him to worry too much about me.
But as he smiled back at me, I saw the sudden mischief in his eyes.
Nico "I bet you'd be safer if your lover was always there by your side, like in the opera."
Jily "Nico—"
Nico "C'mon, think about it— the man you love, right there to protect you, from the moment you wake till the moment you fall asleep."
His words immediately brought to mind a certain someone, and my heart skipped a beat as I tried to imagine it.

The sound of footsteps echoed through the courtyard, distracting me from my thoughts...
