Prologue：

The setting sun began to cast an orange glow over the town.
I was tidying up before dinner when I suddenly heard cheerful voices in the distance.

（Ah, the children must be on their way home.）

This old building used to be a chapel, but was now home to an orphanage where I took care of many children as their caretaker.
The children always came home from playing before the sun came down.
And that was because it was one of the most important rules we had here at the orphanage.
Jily "You'd better be home before sunset, because the vampires come out at night!"
Boy "O-Okay! I promise to come home early!"
The children feared the creatures of darkness, even though they had never seen them before.

（It's my responsibility to protect them in case anything were to happen.）

I went outside and greeted the children at the door as they made their way down the hill.
Jily "Welcome home. Dinner's almost ready, so go ahead and wash up."
Girl "Yay, I'm starving!"
I suddenly noticed there was a man walking with the children and my pulse began to race.
This man sent donations to the orphanage and was very kind to the children.
He made sure that they were home by sundown every day, and the children adored him.
Jily "Thank you for bringing them home."
He smiled and told me it was no trouble at all. My heart raced even faster in my ears.
Although we were poor, seeing the children smile and be happy was all I needed.
...At least, that was what I had told myself all this time.

（So why do I look forward to seeing him every day?）

I knew that these feelings I had inside were love.
But I had a duty first and foremost to the children, so I had tried to suppress the way I felt.
Even though I knew I shouldn't, I just wasn't able to stop the way I felt about him.
