Prologue：

This is a story of a woman who lived in the town near the palace, and the love she found with her childhood friend...
It was late afternoon, and golden rays of sun slanted into the room through the windows.
I'd finished my work as a teacher for the day, and I sat down on the sofa to rest for a bit after my busy day.

（I wish it was evening already, though!）

Time was passing far too slowly, but just thinking about my plans for the evening made me giggle with delight.
??? "Excuse me! I have a delivery for you!"
A knock at the door startled me from my thoughts, and I jumped up from the sofa.

（A delivery? From who?）

I hurried over to open the door, and there stood Nico, the man who worked at the local flower shop.
Nico was holding a basket full of brightly colored flowers in his hands, and he grinned at me as our eyes met.
Jily "Hello, Nico!"
Nico "Hello, Jily. I'm here to deliver these flowers, and this card."
Nico held them both out, and I took them from him automatically.
The soft scent of the flowers seemed to envelop me, and I smiled as I gazed down at them.

（Oh, I just love these flowers! They smell so beautiful!
（But today's not a special day or anything, so why—）

Jily "Who are these flowers from?"
I looked up at Nico again, and he grinned at me, his eyes dancing.
Nico "A certain someone asked me to deliver them.
Nico "You should know who I mean—he's your childhood friend!"
Jily "What? Seriously?"
Then I realized that he must be talking about the same man I was meeting with later that evening.
Nico "He wanted to deliver them himself, but apparently he's really busy with his work right now.
Nico "So he sent me in his place."

（I know he's busy, but—I wasn't expecting flowers!）

Jily "Thanks for coming all this way to deliver them."
I smiled at Nico, and he smiled brightly back at me.
Nico "You're welcome. You two are really close friends, aren't you? I think it's great!"

（Really? It's nice to think that other people look at us and see us like that!）

Nico "Anyway, see you later! By the way, those flowers are perfect for you!"
Nico winked at me as he turned to leave, and I grinned at him as I waved farewell.
I closed the door and turned away, putting down the flowers so I could open the card.

（It's been ages since you've sent me a card.）

I gazed down at his familiar handwriting, my heart skipping a beat as I scanned the words.
The note was short, but that only seemed to give the words more meaning.

（'I'll see you tonight, at our usual place,' huh?）
