Check Out the Prologue >>>
One day, as warm rays of sunlight almost seemed to thaw the winter cold...
Leo and I had just finished up one of our usual lessons.
Leo:That's enough for today. Good job.
Jily:Thank you!
Leo paused, studying me curiously.
Leo:Hey, Jily. Did you have some trouble with today's questions?
Jily:What?
Leo:I just noticed you were stopping to think a lot before writing your answers.
(Aww, he noticed.)
There were some pretty obscure words and terminology in what we'd covered today,
and it had taken me a bit more time than usual to fully grasp everything.
Jily:Well, just a little. I should probably study more, shouldn't I?
Leo:You're always working so hard. No need to fret.
Jily:Really?
(That's nice of him to say, but...)
It was nevertheless true that I hadn't understood a lot of terminology,
and that stuck with me.
Leo:Well, if you're worried—
Leo:I know a good study technique.
Jily:You do? Tell me!
I gazed up at him imploringly, and Leo grinned.
Leo:You study with the person you love.
Jily:Leo! I should've known it would be something like that.
Leo:I mean, it makes sense that you'd progress faster if you're having fun as you study.
Leo was clearly amused, and I felt myself flush even as I rolled my eyes.
(Studying with the person I love, huh?)
I left Leo's study ruminating on what he'd said.
(Maybe I should just ask if he'd be willing to study with me.)
All of a sudden my spirits were soaring,
and I practically skipped down the corridor with my books in hand...
◆ 30 Ink Droplets Bonus: Robert's Cinderella Challenge ~Test Your Knowledge~
A beautiful rainbow stretched across the sky, heralding the last of the rain.
I'd asked Robert to help me with my studies, and he'd been happy to agree.
We sat in his studio together, my study books laid out before us.
(You always know how to make everything so easy to understand.)
I glanced over at him, filled with happiness and a sudden sense of nostalgia.
He blinked at me for a moment, his expression curious.
Robert:Is there something you still don't understand about this problem?
Jily:It's not that. I was just thinking,
Jily:things make so much more sense when you teach them.
Jily:It was the same when I was younger.
Robert:Is that so? I'm glad to hear you say that.
Robert:Thank you.
Robert's smile was sweet and kind,
and the look in his eyes was unusually gentle.
My heart skipped a beat as our eyes met, and I promptly dropped my quill.
(Oops! Gah, you klutz!)
I hurriedly leaned over to pick it up, my cheeks red.
But Robert leaned over to do the same thing, and his hand brushed against mine.
Jily:Oh—
I pulled back with a start, my heart pounding, and Robert held out my quill.
Robert:There you go.
Jily:Thank you.
I tried to regain my composure,
but as I did so a memory flashed through my mind.
(I feel like this happened before,)
(back when I lived in town and you were my tutor.)
I smiled a little as the memory resurfaced.
Robert:We've done this before, haven't we?
(Oh wow, I can't believe you remembered it too!)
Happiness welled up inside of me, and I grinned at him.
Robert:That really takes me back. I have so many memories from life in town.
Jily:What sort of memories?
Robert:Well—
Robert:I remember that even back then, you were always so kind,
Robert:and so hardworking. That hasn't changed.
His gaze was as gentle as ever, and it sent a thrill right through me.
(I have so many memories of all the times when you used to tutor me back then.
(But I don't think my feelings for you are the same as they were then...)
I smiled shyly up at Robert, wishing I could calm my still-racing heart.
I reached out and took the quill from him at last,
dropping my gaze back to my books...
◇ 60 Ink Droplets Bonus: Albert's Cinderella Challenge ~Test Your Knowledge~
One afternoon, a gentle spring breeze was blowing...
Albert set a steaming cup carefully down on the desk in front of me.
Albert:While I'm grading your results, please enjoy a break.
As I'd been in the process of taking a short test of my knowledge, Albert had gotten up,
and he'd made me a cup of fragrant black tea.
Jily:Did you make this just for me?
Albert flushed and fiddled with his glasses.
Albert:Er, well—you deserve a reward for your hard work.
(Awww, Albert!)
Jily:Thank you.
When I smiled at him, he gave me a tiny smile back.
He sat down opposite me and began to mark the parchment I'd written my answers on.
His glasses had gotten a bit fogged up from the tea steam,
and he took them off to polish them.
Albert:Did you find the questions hard?
Jily:Oh, no.
The truth was, I was struggling to sound normal.
The rare sight of Albert without his glasses was affecting me,
and my heart was pounding.
(I guess it's because he usually has the glasses on all the time,)
(this feels so intimate.)
I focused on sipping my tea, trying valiantly to calm my racing pulse.
But Albert noticed anyway.
Albert:What is it?
I jumped a little, my teacup clattering onto its saucer.
(I suppose he's probably worried since I just suddenly stopped talking for no reason.)
Jily:I'm sorry! It's nothi—
(Oh!)
When I looked up at him...
Albert:Ah!
Jily:Oh—
I found Albert's face was now distressingly close to my own.
Not only that,
but the momentum had brought his lips so close to my own that they had brushed together.
The second I realized that, heat flew to my cheeks.
Albert:I must apologize! I can't see very well without my glasses, so—
I couldn't help but stare at his face, which was bright red.
Jily:No, it's completely my fault!
I babbled nonsensically, still conscious of the lingering warmth on my lips.
(All of the things I just studied—)
(My heart's pounding so fast, I don't think I could recall any of them.)
I gazed out the window, trying to will my flaming cheeks to cool,
and a gust of wind swept in and turned a page in the book...
◆ 90 Ink Droplets Bonus: Nico's Cinderella Challenge ~Test Your Knowledge~
It was after a light rain, a faint rainbow streaking across the sky.
Nico and I were sitting next to each other at the desk, a book open between us.
Nico:You're right, there's a lot of difficult questions.
Jily:Yeah. But I need to know this stuff, as the princess.
Jily:I want to learn it properly.
(And when I study with you,)
(I always feel like I remember things better.)
I gave him a somewhat shy smile, not wanting to say the last part out loud.
Nico:Ahh, you're always so amazing, Jily.
Jily:No I'm not.
I didn't know how to react to his sweet compliment,
so I looked down at the book instead.
Jily:Oh—
Nico:What is it?
Jily:This part here—I had so much trouble understanding it when I learned it.
Nico:Which one?
Jily:This one.
I pointed to the paragraph in the book that was bothering me.
Nico:Hmmm, I can't really see it from here.
Nico:Could you bring it a little closer and show me?
Jily:Nico—
I looked up at him suspiciously, but his smile was completely innocent.
Nico:Please, Jily?
Jily:Okay, okay.
(I know what you're doing—but I don't mind.)
I pulled my chair and the book closer to where Nico sat.
Soon we were so close that our shoulders were touching.
(You're so warm, Nico.)
My tummy fluttered at the feel of his shoulder pressed up against mine.
Nico:Oh, I can see better now.
Nico:Yes, I can see better how adorable you look.
Nico placed a sudden kiss on my cheek, his lips warm against my skin.
Jily:Geez, Nico—
Nico:It's your reward for working so hard.
Jily:If you say so.
I glanced over at him, and I couldn't help but start giggling.
His bright smile widened, and the sight of it filled me with joy.
Nico:Oh, and we'll work hard on the problem as well!
Nico:Let's figure it out together, okay?
Jily:Okay.
We smiled at each other, and the warmth of the moment seemed to linger.
Our shoulders pressed firmly together as we leaned over the book again...
◇ 130 Ink Droplets Bonus: Leo's Cinderella Challenge ~Test Your Knowledge~
One day, as a refreshing breeze rustled the tree leaves...
The day after my lesson with Leo, I'd asked him to help me study.
This time it wouldn't be a formal lesson,
but rather self-study with Leo there too.
Leo:For once, you're all fired up about your studies.
Leo:So I'm going to be stricter on you than usual.
He looked entirely too amused, and I narrowed my eyes at him suspiciously.
Jily:Leo, what does that mean?
All of a sudden, the look in his eyes turned serious.
Leo:Princess.
Leo:I am your teacher, and you must address me as such. It's Mr. Crawford.
(Is this what he means by being stricter than usual?)
Leo:Now say it.
(I guess he's right, he is my teacher.)
(Although I've never addressed him this formally, so it's a little weird.)
I realized my heart was beating faster.
All too aware of the heat in my cheeks, I decided to just say it.
Jily:Mr... Crawford.
I murmured, and Leo gave me a bright smile.
He patted my head appreciatively.
Leo:Good girl. You really are so obedient.
Leo was grinning sunnily at me.
Jily:Wait, were you just messing with me?
Leo:I'm sorry! You just looked so cute, I couldn't help it.
Jily:What?! Leo!
He laughed out loud, handing me a piece of parchment.
Leo:All right, now let's get down to brass tacks.
Leo:But you can feel free to call me Mr. Crawford whenever your heart desires.
Jily:After that stunt? No thank you!
I turned my face aside in mock-annoyance, and Leo drew nearer to me.
Leo:What about if I say you'll get extra credit if you do?
Jily:Leo—
I couldn't help but feel my pulse start to race at how close he was,
and Leo gave me a sweet, innocent smile that could fool no one...
◆ 180 Ink Droplets Bonus: Giles's Cinderella Challenge ~Test Your Knowledge~
Outside, the blue sky seemed to stretch on forever overhead.
Inside, Giles and I were studying together in his room.
(It's been ages since we got to study alone together like this.
(I can't help but be hyper-aware of you, Giles.)
I was staring at the book that was open in front of me,
but I couldn't focus on the words.
Giles spoke then, his voice close to my ear as he leaned over me.
Giles:You've stopped writing, Princess.
(Oops!)
Jily:Well, um—I don't really understand this part.
Giles:Is that so?
Giles:Then I shall explain everything in great detail, until you understand.
Giles leaned further forward,
his arms coming around from behind, almost like an embrace.
He tapped a passage in the book, but I couldn't focus on it.
My thoughts were on the closeness of his body.
He was explaining the text to me,
but all I could think of was the lilt of his voice,
and the way his breath tickled my ear.
Giles:And this section here...
(Uh oh. This is making even less sense than it did before.)
My heart was racing, my body tense with excitement.
I shifted my grip on my quill, trying yet again to focus.
Suddenly Giles slid his fingers under my chin, lifting my face towards him.
Our eyes met, and I licked my lips slowly.
Giles:You seem unable to focus.
Jily:Well, I wonder why.
(You know exactly what you're doing, don't you?)
We stared at each other for a moment longer, and then Giles's lips quirked upwards.
Giles:I suppose I took it a little too far.
Jily:You think?
Giles:But that was because you were hiding something from me.
(Wait a minute—)
Jily:You knew all along I couldn't focus because of you, didn't you?
Instead of answering, Giles simply continued to smile at me.
I opened my mouth to say something more,
but he kissed me lightly on the lips, and then moved away.
Giles:We should continue, Princess.
Giles's eyes were dancing, and I did my best to hide my smile.
But my heart was still racing as I turned to look at the book again.
Jily:Could you explain it to me again?
Giles:Yes, of course.
(You're such a tease, Giles, and I love it.)
I gripped my quill tightly,
looking forward to Giles's next intimate explanation...
◇ 220 Ink Droplets Bonus: Louis's Cinderella Challenge ~Test Your Knowledge~
One peaceful afternoon, a lovely breeze was stirring the curtains...
Jily:Louis, wait!
His face was way too close to mine, and I turned my head to the side.
Louis:No. You promised, didn't you?
Louis:You said if you got a question wrong I could have a kiss.
Louis was staying at the palace, and I'd asked him to help me study.
But he'd had one request...
Jily:I did promise, yes.
(But I didn't think he'd really demand a kiss!
(What if someone comes in?)
My heart was pounding, and I glanced nervously over at the door.
Louis took the opportunity to press a kiss to my cheek.
Jily:Louis!
He pulled back and gave me a mischievous smile.
Louis:Next question.
Jily:Okay...
He moved away from me like nothing at all had happened,
but I was over here unable to keep my heart from racing.
(I still feel jumpy and nervous.)
I let out a long breath, and Louis turned the pages of my textbook.
There was a playful gleam in his eyes when he looked at me.
Louis:If you get this one wrong,
Louis:can I kiss you on the place where I want to kiss you the most?
(What!)
I felt his gaze on my lips, and reached up to touch them.
(That's so embarrassing when he says it like that!)
Just the thought had my face flushing.
Louis:Jily, you're bright red.
(Yeah, and it's your fault!)
I could hear the teasing tone in his voice, and I looked away.
Louis:Do your best on the next question.
Jily:I will.
(I'm so worked up, I'm not at all confident in how well I can answer.)
Louis:I'm waiting, then.
He gazed at me, a small smile on his lips,
and began to read out the next question...
◆ 250 Ink Droplets Bonus: Sid's Cinderella Challenge ~Test Your Knowledge~
One starlit night...
Sid was visiting me in my room after I'd completed my royal duties for the day.
Since he was already there, I asked him to help me study.
Sid:What? You want ME to help ya study?
Jily:Yeah, I thought I might cover more ground if I studied with someone else.
(Leo said to study with the person you love.)
(But he'll tease me if I say that, so I won't.)
I decided to keep that thought to myself, and Sid smirked.
Sid:If that's how it is, sure, I'll teach ya.
Jily:Wait, really?
Sid:Yep. But lemme tell ya upfront, I ain't gonna go easy on ya.
Jily:Okay!
Sid snatched up one of my study books and began flipping the pages.
Sid:First read this. Ask me if you don't understand something.
Sid held out the open book to me.
(I should've known he'd treat this with the same rough attitude as he does everything.)
(But I'm happy I get to study with him.)
I took the book and began to read like he'd told me to.
(Ooh, I'm not quite sure I know what this means.)
Jily:Sid, what is this part here saying?
Sid:Mm, so what that means is—
Sid's explanation was clear and easy to follow.
(Wow, he's a good teacher.)
(Sid really can do anything.)
I found myself staring up at Sid in wonder, and our eyes suddenly met.
His gaze was serious, and my heart leaped.
Sid:Hey. Look at the book, not me.
Jily:Um! Our eyes just happened to meet, that's all.
But Sid smirked like he'd seen right through me.
Sid:Fall in love with me all over again, did ya?
My heart thudded guiltily in my chest. He'd nailed it in one.
(Whenever we spend time together,)
(I feel even more love for him than I did before.)
My face surely bright red, I gave a tiny nod.
Yes, I'd fallen for him all over again.
Sid:I kinda like it when you're honest like this.
A big grin split his face and he fondly ruffled my hair...
◇ 270 Ink Droplets Bonus: Byron's Cinderella Challenge ~Test Your Knowledge~
*感謝Feiya殿下提供唷~~(≧∀≦)ゞ
It was early evening, and the stars glimmered faintly in the sky outside.
Byron was gazing down at the parchment with all my answers. He sounded impressed as he said,
Byron:Just as I expected.
Byron:I don't think you needed me to teach you anything, did you?
Jily:That's not true.
Byron was visiting Wysteria for work, and I'd asked him to help me with my studies.
(Your explanations were so helpful.)
(I feel like I understand things even better now.)
Byron sat next to me, his expression gentle as he gazed at me.
I looked up at him with a smile, feeling grateful and happy.
Byron:If I remember right—
Byron:You asked me to give you a massage if you got everything right.
Jily:Yes, I did. If you don't mind, of course.
Byron:Your wish is my command, Princess.
Byron smiled at me again, and reached around to knead my shoulders with his firm grip.
(You don't do this for me very often, but I really, really like how it feels.)
(I feel like I could relax into your arms and start purring any second.)
His gentle touch soothed my whole body, and my eyes half-lidded with pleasure.
I sensed Byron leaning a little closer, but I didn't look up just yet.
Then his deep, husky voice murmured softly in my ear.
Byron:Jily.
Byron:Are you sure that's all you want?
Jily:Well—
My heart skipped a beat at the promise of things to come in his voice.
I lifted my head slowly, meeting his mischievous gaze head-on.
Something in his expression captivated me as he leaned towards me.
(This is an even better reward than I expected.)
(If I could be rewarded like this every day, I'd sure study a lot harder!)
I closed my eyes in anticipation, reaching up to wrap my arms around Byron.
A moment later his lips found mine, his kiss even warmer and sweeter than I'd hoped...
