It was early afternoon, the sun shining brightly down on the palace.
I had a short break in between meetings,
so I stepped out into the courtyard for a breather.

but just as I was stretching, I heard someone speak.
Giles：There you are, Princess.

I turned towards the sound of his voice, and then stopped in surprise at what I saw.
Giles：You weren't in your room, so we've been looking for you.
Alyn：You really like being outside, huh?
Leo：I think it's a good thing. It shows how lively you are.
Sid：Too lively, I'd say.

Giles wasn't alone—Alyn, Leo and Sid were standing with him.
Jily：What's going on?
As I stared at them all in surprise, one of them took a step towards me.
I looked up at him, squinting at the bright sunlight that seemed to make his hair shine.
???：Do I need a reason to give you a present?
Jily：Are you serious?
His voice was a husky purr that set my heart pounding.
He leaned closer, reaching out to take me by the hand.

I opened my eyes with a start, and realized I was lying on my sofa.

（Did I fall asleep?）

I sat up slowly, looking around in confusion.
As I did, I noticed a book that had fallen to the floor beside me.

The book told a story about a princess who received gifts from many suitors.

（Is that why I had such a weird dream?）

I giggled a little as I remembered the strange dream I'd been having.
At that same moment there was a knock at the door, and someone stepped into the room...

I looked up in surprise as someone stepped into the room.
Jily：Alyn!
It was as if he'd stepped straight out of my dream, and I felt a strange flutter deep inside.
I stared up into his beautiful red eyes, and he raised an eyebrow at me.
Alyn：Are you that surprised to see me?
Alyn pushed the door shut behind him, his gaze still focused on me.
Jily：Oh! No, I'm not.
Alyn：Okay then.

（I just—I didn't expect you to turn up right after I dreamed about you giving me a present!）

My surprise quickly faded into happiness at his presence.
I smiled brightly at him as he crossed over and sat down next to me.
Without warning he handed me something.
Alyn：Here.

（What's this?）

I stared in surprise at the elegant black box in his hand.
Alyn：I found it down in town, so I thought I'd get it for you.

（Wait a minute—is this a present?）
（Oh wow, it's like my dream is really happening!）

I goggled at him for a moment, then slowly took the box from him.
Jily：Can I open it?
Alyn：Yeah.
I opened the box to find a delicate glass bottle of perfume nestled inside.
Jily：Oh, it's so pretty!
The bottle was red in colour, its surface decorated with intricate swirling patterns.
The reflected light from the window seemed to make it sparkle as I lifted it from the box.
Alyn：I thought that scent would suit you.
Jily：Thank you, Alyn.

（You picked it out just for me, didn't you?）

The thought filled me with joy, and I beamed up at him.

（But—today's not a special day, is it?）
（I didn't forget some important anniversary or something, did I?）

Jily：But—why are you giving me this?
Alyn's gaze skipped away from mine, a frown creasing his forehead.
Alyn：I don't need a reason to give you a present, right?

I caught my breath at the familiar words.

It was probably just a happy coincidence, but it filled me with delight all the same.
Jily：I don't know, it's just...

Jily：I was thinking how happy I am.
I grinned cheerfully up at Alyn, hugging the bottle to my chest.
Alyn looked startled for a moment,
but then he reached out and gently flicked me on the forehead.
Alyn：Silly. You're overreacting.
He gave me a rueful smile as he spoke, but then his expression seemed to relax.
Alyn：Besides, I wouldn't do this for anyone but you.

（This is all just for me...）

The murmured words set my heart pounding.
A moment later Alyn slid an arm around my waist, pulling me towards him.
His lips found mine, his kiss gentle but with an edge of passion.
I felt a flutter of anticipation deep inside as I reached up to wrap my arms around him.
He moved his lips lower, trailing kisses down my neck towards my collarbone.

I fell back against the sofa, pulling Alyn down with me.
His kisses moved lower still, and I moaned softly, closing my eyes...

I heard a knock at my door, and I started in surprise as Giles stepped into the room.

I sat up a little straighter, looking over at him, but he only smiled gently.
Giles：There's something I want to give you.
Jily：What? Really?

I stared at him in disbelief as he closed the door and crossed over to sit beside me.
He brought out his hand from behind his back and offered me a white box.
Giles：Please, open it.

（I never expected a gift!）

His words were gentle, and I hesitantly took the box and opened it.
Jily：Oh wow, they're beautiful!
Inside the box was a lovely pair of purple shoes.
They were trimmed with an edging of fine lace,
and decorated with a pair of lavender butterfly wings on the upper part.
The design was topped with dainty ribbon tied in a bow.

I stared down at them in wonder and delight, and then Giles's voice echoed in my ear.
Giles：It looks as though you like them.
Jily：I do!
I was startled and yet filled with joy at the unexpected gift.

（Today's not a special occasion or anything.）
（At least, I don't think it is.）

I couldn't imagine what I'd done to receive such a lovely gift,
and I looked up at Giles in confusion.
To my surprise, he smiled down at me.

He continued to smile as he leaned close to kiss me softly on the earlobe.
Giles：Do I really need a reason to give you a present?
His voice was a sensual murmur in my ear,
his warm breath against my skin setting my heart racing.
But then I caught my breath as my dream came back to me.

I stared up at him in wonder, and his expression changed.

I hesitated, and then went on to tell him about my dream.

I studied him in confusion, and he smiled, reaching out to stroke my cheek.

His whisper was endearingly sweet, and I smiled up at him.
I felt him wrap an arm around my waist even as his lips found mine in a soft kiss.

I gazed down at the music box,

But instead of words, I felt his lips press softly against my cheek.

I turned to look at him, his face still hovering close to mine.
Leo：It's my feelings for you.
Leo：You're so precious to me that I want to shower you with gifts every single day.
Leo：I want to see your beautiful smile every day, not just on special days.

（Oh, Leo—when you say things like that, you make me so happy.）

Warmth and joy bubbled up inside of me, and I smiled brightly up at him.
I reached up to wrap my arms around his neck, and he cupped my cheek with his hand.
Leo：Can I show you more directly how I feel?

（As if I would ever say no to that.）

Jily：Go right ahead.
I grinned expectantly at him, and his eyes sparkled as he leaned towards me.
Our lips came together in a kiss that was warm and passionate.
He wrapped his arms around me, and I moaned softly as he slid his tongue into my mouth.
I kissed him back firmly, wanting to show him how I felt about him, too...

I cut myself off at his knowing smirk,
watching as he reached down to touch my collarbone.
Sid：Go look in a mirror.
Jily：What?
I stood up and walked over to the nearby mirror.
I was wearing a necklace,
the pendant a beautiful silver heart with a small sapphire at the bottom.
Jily：It's gorgeous!
Sid：Ya like it?

（Wait a minute—）

Jily：Is this a gift? For me?
Sid：Yep. I found it in town and thought you'd like it, so I bought it.
Jily：But today's not my birthday, or an anniversary, or...
I trailed off as Sid reached out to touch the pendant.
Sid：Ya think I need a reason to give you a present?
Jily：You—

Sid：But if ya don't want it, I'll just sell it to someone else. So go on, give it back.
Jily：I didn't say I don't want it!
I wrapped my hand firmly around the pendant, and Sid laughed, his expression smug.
Sid：Then wear it for me.
Jily：Sid—thank you.

（If I hadn't woken up in the middle of that dream—）

Happiness filled me up inside, and I grinned up at him.
Jily：Hey Sid, I want to do something to thank you for the present.
Sid：What? Why?
Jily：Well, I'm happy that you wanted to give me something.
Jily：And I want to give you something in return.
I looked up into his dark eyes, and I could see a flash of desire deep inside them.
Sid：In that case, hold still.
Jily：What?
Before I could say anything more, he leaned closer again.
A moment later his lips possessed mine, his kiss demanding and passionate.
Then he was kissing my cheek, my eyelids, the tip of my nose, and my forehead.
Jily：Hey, I'm meant to be giving YOU something.
I gasped the words out, and I heard him laugh as he reached up to ruffle my hair.
Sid：You thought I was gonna kiss you before, didn't ya?
Sid：I was just gonna drop off your present, but I've changed my mind. I want ya.
Sid：So if you want to give me something, give me you.

I reached up and slid my arms around his neck, pulling him closer.
