The snowdrifts sparkled and gleamed under the rays of the afternoon sun.
There was a "Snowman Magic Festival" going on in town today,
and I'd stolen away from the castle so I could meet my special someone there for a date.

（Everyone looks like they're having so much fun.
（What an adorable little festival!）

Children laughed and played in the snow while couples snuggled together drinking hot cocoa, admiring the snow sculptures.
As I watched them with a smile on my face, I recalled something I'd heard back at the castle.
Several days earlier during breakfast, Giles had told me about the festival.

Giles "Come to think of it, it is almost time for the Snowman Magic Festival."
Jily "It's going to be in the town square, right?"
Giles "Yes, that's right. The festival began a few years ago,
Giles "and it has grown so popular that even people from other countries come to join in."
The festival began as a way to display snow sculptures,
but gradually added more events until it grew so big they had to hold it in the town square.

（I'd heard of it before, but I've never been.）

Jily "What IS Snowman Magic, though?"
Giles "Ah, the creator of the festival named it after a very experience he had.
Giles "Supposedly, a snowman possesses special magic that will bring two lovers together."
Jily "Really?"
According to Giles, the man who started the festival went on a date with a woman he'd harbored secret feelings for.
Together, they made a snowman and it was such a magical experience that it brought the two of them together, romantically.
Giles "He wanted to bring that same magic to others,
Giles "and local legend says if you play in the snow with your lover at the festival, your relationship will grow even closer."

I turned around to see Byron standing there.
He had to finish his duties for the day first,
so that was why we met at the festival instead of the castle.
Jily "Not at all. I just got here myself, actually."
I answered him with a smile. Byron reached out to caress my cheek, smiling at me in return.
Byron "You don't have to lie.
Byron "Your nose and cheeks are pink."
Jily "Oops…"
My hand flew to the tip of my nose,
and I could feel my ears heating up, too.

（All right, he got me. I was so excited that I came early.
（I didn't realize my face was turning red, though.）

Byron "I'm sorry you had to wait out here in the cold for me."
Jily "It's okay, Byron."
I shook my head and smiled at him
as he gently stroked my cheek with the pad of his thumb.
Jily "It's strange… I didn't really feel cold until you mentioned it.
Jily "Probably because I was thinking about you and was so excited to see you."
Byron "Jily…"

（I'm so thrilled to be at such a romantic festival with him,
（and I could hardly stand still because I was so excited for him to get here.）

After I told him that,
his eye blinked in surprise and his expression softened.
Byron "I have something to tell you, too.
Byron "I was also really looking forward to spending the day with you."
He smiled at me warmly and clasped my hand.
Byron "Let's go look around."
Jily "Okay!"
He laced his fingers through mine, and his warmth mixed with the happiness I felt being with him, slowly spreading through me.
I squeezed his hand tightly, thrilled that he was looking forward to this just as much as I was.
We decided to walk around and look at the snow sculptures first.
Byron "I'm surprised that it's not just children making snowmen."
The town square was filled with couples making snowmen…
along with the children who tumbled and played in the snow.
Jily "It's because of the Snowman Magic! It's a legend according to this festival."
Byron "Snowman Magic?"
Curiosity filled his eye as I explained what Giles had told me earlier about the origin of the festival.
Jily "Would you like to make a snowman with me, Byron? Only if you want to, of course."

We started to build a tiny snowman near the entrance of the church.
We stepped back to admire the perfectly shaped snowballs stacked on top of each other.
Jily "Will you finish it up, Byron?"
Byron "Of course."
He grinned at me warmly and nodded,
then stuck a big red berry from a nearby tree in the middle of its face for the nose.

（I'm so glad we got to do this together.）

As we looked at cute, red-nosed snowman, Byron glanced at me and spoke in deep, hushed voice.
Byron "I'm much better making them now than when I was a boy."
Jily "I was just thinking the same thing.
Jily "Your fingers are freezing, though. I feel bad for asking you to do this when it's so cold out."
Even though we were wearing gloves,
the biting cold of the snow went right through them, making our hands stiff and frozen.

（He did most of the work because he didn't want me to get too cold…
（but he has to be absolutely freezing by now.）

I looked up at him with concern and met his warm gaze.
Byron "My hands are cold… But my heart is warm, because I'm here with you."
His husky whisper tickled my ear as he planted a tiny kiss on my temple.
Jily "Byron…"
His sudden soft touch took me off guard, sending a surge of warmth throughout my body.

（It's strange, isn't it? Just loving someone and being with them can make you feel warm.
（I hope our relationship can last like this forever…）

Even the snowflakes that fluttered down from the sky seemed warm, as if touched by the snowman's magic.
Once again, we held hands tightly, lacing our fingers together.
We snuggled up against each other to share our warmth on the romantic winter's day.

I turned around and saw Albert standing there, pointing out ahead.
Albert "The treasure hunt is over there."
Jily "Shall we get going, then?"
There was a treasure hunt happening as part of the festival,
and Albert had just gone to ask the sponsor about it.

（I was hesitant to ask him to do the treasure hunt with me, because I was afraid he'd think it childish.
（So I was so happy when he invited me to do it instead.）

He'd looked into the legend of the festival a little more in depth,
and he suggested we take part in the treasure hunt as soon as he arrived.
Albert "How are you feeling?"
Jily "Much better now, thank you. And I'm so sorry."
Two weeks ago, I was sick in bed for two days with a bad cold I'd caught after working too hard.
Albert just happened to be visiting Wysteria to deliver an official document at that time.
But I didn't want him to come see me because I was afraid he'd catch my cold.
Albert "There's no need to apologize.
Albert "I'm just so happy you're feeling better."
He smiled warmly at me and I did so in return.

（I'm glad I got better in time for today.）

Albert's tender smile always had a special way of warming my heart.
Albert "Shall we go, then?"
Jily "Of course."
The two of us walked over towards the treasure hunt.

When we arrived, we both put on thick, woolen gloves,
and stepped into the snowdrifts, our feet slowly sinking into the soft snow.
There was already quite the crowd already eagerly engaged in the pursuit of the treasure.
Albert "Let's search over here."
Jily "All right."
The two of us crouched down and began digging in the pure white snow.
Sparkling bits of the white powder flew in all directions as we dug, glistening in the sunlight.
Albert "I wonder what the treasure is?"
Jily "I'm not sure.
Jily "But I'm definitely excited about it!"
In fact, I was so excited I felt like I was a child again, my heart pounding as I imagined the treasure.
A smile curved Albert's lips as he glanced at me.
Jily "Ah!"
Albert "What is it?"
Both of us hit something at the same time and immediately made eye contact.
We nodded at each other and started carefully digging,
then unearthed a sculpture shaped like a star. It was a beautiful emerald green color.
Jily "Wow!"
Albert "So then this is the treasure?"
Jily "It must be!
Jily "How beautiful…"
We both stood up and took a closer look at the star.

（This treasure is supposed to bring us closer together…）

That made it seem extra valuable to me.
Just then, a blast of icy wind rushed past and I shivered a bit.
Albert "Are you cold? Come closer to me."
Albert blushed slightly as he pulled me close.
Jily "Oh…"
The warmth from his sudden touch made my heart race like mad.
I looked up at him with pink cheeks.
He quickly averted his gaze and spoke in a quiet voice.
Albert "…You just got well, so you should really be more careful."

（He's worried about me…）

The glimpses of tenderness I get from him always touch my heart so deeply.
Jily "Thank you… I'm very warm now."

My heart thudded in my chest as I cradled the star-shaped treasure.
I nuzzled against his warm chest, thinking about the legend that said it would bring us even closer together…
