Prologue:
Sweet white and pink flowers bloomed everywhere in the town, giving it a bright, fresh vibe.
It was a season for new beginnings, a season for things to change.
Giles "You will have a special job to do starting from tomorrow."
Giles reached out to pull open a drawer in the desk as he spoke.
Giles "This is the season in Wysteria when thoughts turn to marriage.
Giles "But you have not yet chosen a prince consort."
Giles removed something from the drawer and closed it again.
Then he held out his hand, offering it to me.
Giles "A day will come soon enough when you will be married.
Giles "I would like you to practice what that's like for just three days."
Atop Giles's hand was a small box, the outside made of plush velvet.
Giles "I will leave the choice up to you.
Giles "Who will be your husband for the next three days?"
I stared up at him with wide eyes as I reached out to take the small box from him.
(I'm supposed to choose a husband? Then what's this?)
I hesitated for a moment, and then opened the box.
Inside I found two rings, sparkling brightly...

Who will you choose to be with, Jily?
>>>Choose Giles
Giles, Chapter 1, Part 1/5:
Giles "I will leave the choice up to you.
Giles "Who will be your husband for the next three days?"
I opened the small box and found two rings nestled inside.
(The person I want to choose—)
I didn't even have to think about it as I lifted my gaze to look up at Giles.
Giles "Is something the matter?"
Jily "No."
(But you know exactly what I'm thinking, don't you?)
I hesitated, waiting to see whether he'd say something or whether he really wanted me to be the one.
Giles reached out and stroked my cheek with one long finger, lifting my chin towards him.
Giles "Unless you say it, I won't know what you want, Princess."
(Oh—)
His gaze was challenging, and my heart skipped a beat.
Jily "Giles—
Jily "I'd like to choose you."
Giles's eyes crinkled at the corners as his smile deepened.
Giles "Why?"
Jily "What?"
Giles "Why do you want to choose me as your partner?
Giles "If I don't know the reason for that, then I can't respond."
(You're totally teasing me now, Giles.)
I could see the mischief sparkling deep in his gaze, and I pouted a little.
But I already knew the answer to his question, so I said,
Jily "Because I love you."
Giles's finger dropped away from my chin at my words.
Giles, Chapter 1, Part 2/5:
Giles's finger dropped away from my chin at my words.
He reached out and took the box from my hands.
Giles "May I have your left hand?"
Jily "Okay."
I offered Giles my hand, and he took it in his and gently slid the ring onto my ring finger.
Giles "Would you mind putting mine on for me?"
He held out his hand, and I put the ring on his ring finger as well.
(Oh wow.)
The rings were gold with a ruby in the center, and I held my hand out next to his.
I stared at the matching rings, captivated by the sight of them sparkling and glistening in the light.
Giles moved his hand then, his fingers twining with mine.
Giles "I know I made you say this a moment ago, so let me say it too.
Giles "I love you."
Jily "Giles—"
Giles "And from today onwards you are not just the princess, you are also my wife."
Giles lifted my hand in his, and placed a soft kiss against the ring on my finger.
Giles "I look forward to our married days together."
Giles's smile was surprisingly gentle, and I smiled brightly back at him.
***
The next day was the beginning of our so-called married life together.
We rode in a carriage together until we reached a small cottage in the middle of the forest.
Giles "This looks like a nice place, doesn't it?"
Jily "Yes!"
(I never imagined you and I might get to live together in a place like this.)
Excitement welled up inside me, and I smiled happily as I looked around.
Giles offered me his hand, and when I looked up I realized he looked as happy as I felt.
Giles "Shall we go inside?"
Jily "Yes please!"
I placed my hand in Giles's and we walked towards the cottage.
(It's so lovely here, and so peaceful!
(You're usually so busy with work, Giles. I hope you can take advantage of this opportunity to get some rest.)
I looked up at Giles, studying his face in profile for a moment.
Jily "Hey, Giles?"
Giles "Yes?"
Jily "I'm gonna work really hard to be the best wife ever."
I smiled up at him, but to my surprise he stopped walking.
He stared down at me in silence for a long moment.
Giles, Chapter 1, Part 3/5:
Jily "I'm gonna work really hard to be the best wife ever."
I smiled up at him, but to my surprise he stopped walking.
He stared down at me in silence for a long moment.
Jily "Giles?"
I blinked at him in confusion, wondering what was so odd about what I'd said.
But a moment later—
Giles "Jily."
(Oh!)
Giles reached out and pulled me close, his lips capturing mine in an unexpected kiss.
I looked up in surprise as our lips parted, and found him smiling sweetly down at me.
Giles "When you say things like that, I feel like I have so much to look forward to."
He reached up, his thumb tracing slowly along my lower lip.
Giles "Even though just being with you like this is already enough to make me happy."
There was no hesitation in his gaze, and my heart skipped a beat as I stared up at him.
Jily "Me too.
Jily "I mean—I'm so happy just being with you like this."
I smiled happily at him, and he gave me a chagrined look.
Giles "Do you know what it does to me when you look at me like that?"
(What?)
Before I could ask him to explain, he kissed me again, his lips bold and passionate on mine.
Giles "If you keep saying sweet things like that—
Giles "I may have to do more than just kiss you."
Jily "Giles!"
I blushed as I realized what he meant, and he laughed softly.
Giles "Or maybe it's too early in the day for that.
Giles "Let's go inside, shall we?"
Jily "Okay."
I couldn't decide whether I was relieved or disappointed by his words.
(Is it too early? Well, who cares. It's not too early to be this happy!)
Giles squeezed my hand, and I smiled as I squeezed it back.
I felt like skipping, but instead I walked sedately as I followed him into the cottage.
Giles, Chapter 1, Part 4/5:
We reached our room and put down our luggage, and then Giles pulled a large sheaf of documents out of his bag.
(Oh my gosh, that's so much work!)
Giles "I'm so sorry, but I still have work that I simply must get finished before the end of the day.
Giles "Please don't mind me, though. I want you to relax and enjoy yourself."
Jily "I see. Okay, I'll do that."
I was reminded anew of how busy Giles always was, and I couldn't help but worry for him.
Giles "Jily."
Jily "Yes?"
I lifted my head in surprise, and Giles kissed me gently on the cheek.
Giles "If you need anything, or if anything happens, please let me know.
Giles "I'll be in the library."
Giles lifted the huge stack of documents in his arms and headed for the door.
(I can't help but worry, though. What if you work yourself too hard and get sick?)
I reached up and touched my cheek, where the warmth of his kiss still lingered, and then I had an idea.
(I know! I'll prepare things now so that you're able to relax later.
(Right! Let's get started!)
My worry turned to enthusiasm as I headed for the kitchen.
***
It was late in the afternoon, and the clock chimed the hour.
I was in the kitchen making stew, and I lifted a spoonful from the pot to test the flavor.
(Yay, it's delicious! I hope he likes it.)
Giles "That smells lovely."
Jily "Oh!"
I hadn't even heard Giles enter the room, and I jumped in surprise as he wrapped his arms around me from behind.
Jily "Giles! How is your work going?"
Giles "I just finished."
(In that case, I bet you're exhausted!)
I reached down and placed my hands over his where they rested on my stomach.
I turned a little in his grasp so I could look up at him.
Jily "Do you want to have dinner? Or do you want to have a bath?"
Giles, Chapter 1, Part 5/5:
Jily "Do you want to have dinner? Or do you want to have a bath?"
Giles reached up to caress my cheek with the back of his hand.
Giles "Do I only have two options?"
Jily "What?"
Giles leaned closer, his breath warm against my ear as he whispered,
Giles "I'd prefer to have you."
He nibbled gently on my ear, and my stomach did sudden somersaults.
Jily "Giles—"
He laughed softly at my reaction, pulling back to look down at me again.
Giles "I'm just kidding.
Giles "I'll have a bath first."
Giles kissed me gently on the cheek, and then stepped out of the kitchen before I could reply.
(Geez, Giles. You sure know how to keep things hopping!)
My heart was still pounding, and I pressed a hand against it.
(Anyway, that means I can get dinner ready while you're bathing.)
I smiled to myself as I turned to reach for the plates.
***
When Giles was finished having his bath, we sat down together to eat dinner.
Giles "This is delicious."
Giles's smile was satisfied as he spooned the stew I'd made into his mouth.
(Thank goodness!)
I breathed a sigh of relief, smiling back at him as I ate my own dinner, when—
(Gosh, who could that be?)
There was a knock at the door, and I put down my spoon in surprise.
Giles put down his spoon as well, looking up at the clock.
Giles "Ahh yes, it's just about time for them to arrive."
Giles, Chapter 2, Part 1/5:
Giles "Ahh yes, it's just about time for them to arrive."
Giles stood up and headed for the door, and I blinked in confusion.
Jily "Is someone due to visit us?"
Giles "Yes. Please come with me."
(Me too? Is it someone important? Why didn't you tell me?)
I frowned a little as I stood up from the table and followed Giles to the door.
He opened the door, and my eyes widened in surprise.
(A little girl?)
An adorable little red-haired girl was standing there, holding hands with a woman as she stared up at us.
Giles "She's from the orphanage, but she'll be staying with us for a little while."
I greeted the woman from the orphanage who'd brought the girl to us.
Meanwhile, Giles crouched down so that he was at eye level with the girl.
Giles "What's your name?"
Girl "Marie."
Giles "What a lovely name."
Marie was eyeing him warily, but Giles smiled gently at her.
Her expression relaxed at his smile, a blush spreading across her cheeks.
Jily "Good evening, Marie.
Jily "We were just eating some stew for dinner. Do you want to join us?"
Marie "Yes please!"
A smile lit up Marie's face, and she nodded happily at me.
(Gosh, she's so adorable!)
Marie reached out and took my hand, and I led her back into the house.
***
I served another bowl of stew for Marie, and we all sat down at the table together.
Jily "Marie, do you like the stew?"
Marie "Yes, I do! Giles, do you like it?"
Giles "I most certainly do. Make sure you eat it all, Marie."
(Eating dinner together like this makes us feel like a real family.)
Marie chattered happily with Giles, and I smiled at the gentle way he responded to her.
My heart was filled with warmth and an odd longing for something I hadn't even known I'd wanted.
Giles, Chapter 2, Part 2/5:
After dinner Giles sat down with Marie on his knee, and they read a picture book together.
(This is so nice.)
I watched the two of them having fun with the book as I poured tea for Giles and myself.
Giles "And then the princess lived happily ever after."
Giles closed the book, and Marie looked up at him with wide, serious eyes.
Marie "Giles, did the prince and the princess get married?"
Giles "Yes, of course."
Marie "Do you think I can be a princess one day?"
Giles "You most certainly can. You'll have to start looking for your prince."
Marie "Hmm."
Marie nodded gravely, and then climbed down from Giles's knee and ran over to where I stood in the kitchen.
Jily "What's the matter, Marie?"
Marie "Jily, I need to ask you something."
Jily "What is it?"
I put down the teapot and crouched down to meet her gaze, and she leaned over to whisper in my ear.
Marie "I think my prince is Giles!
Marie "I think I love him. Could you help me?"
Jily "What?"
My voice squeaked in disbelief at her unexpected request.
Giles stood up from the sofa and walked over to join us in the kitchen.
Giles "What are you two up to in here?"
Marie "Nothing!
Marie "Keep it a secret for me, okay Jily?"
The last words were whispered in my ear, and all I could do was nod.
Jily "Okay."
(Marie—I guess you haven't realized that Giles and I are married right now?)
I watched in silence as Marie ran towards Giles and threw her arms around him.
***
That evening—
Giles, Chapter 2, Part 3/5:
There was only a single bedroom with one large bed in it.
So Giles, Marie, and I all lay down to sleep in the bed together.
Marie "Giles, hug me."
Giles "Can't you sleep?"
Marie "Not unless you hug me tight!"
Giles "I guess I have no choice then."
Giles smiled wryly, glancing at me for a moment.
He pulled Marie into his arms and began to stroke her back soothingly.
(I know she's just a kid, but—)
Marie's face was suffused with happiness as she gazed up at Giles, and I felt an odd twinge in my stomach.
Marie "Giles, stay with me until morning."
Giles "I will."
Giles patted her on the head, and she closed her eyes and was soon sound asleep in his arms.
Giles "Jily.
Giles "You don't look very happy. Is something the matter?"
Jily "What?"
I felt suddenly guilty to be lying there feeling jealous of a small child.
(Besides, I promised Marie I'd keep it a secret.)
Jily "No, it's nothing. I was just thinking."
Giles "I see."
Giles reached out and caught hold of my hand.
(Oh—)
He pulled me gently towards him, until our lips were almost touching.
But then he froze, his lips still mere inches from mine.
Marie "Nnn—Giles—"
Marie mumbled in her sleep, positioned perfectly between us, and snuggled closer to Giles.
Giles sighed softly, his gaze regretful as he looked at me.
Giles "I suppose it will have to wait.
Giles "As much as I want to touch you right now—"
He grimaced a little, and then pulled back again.
Giles "Goodnight, Jily."
Jily "Goodnight, Giles."
(This is so weird. I've never felt quite like this before.)
I lay back against the pillow and closed my eyes, but I couldn't calm my thoughts, and sleep was a long time coming.
Giles, Chapter 2, Part 4/5:
The next morning—
Marie and I woke up earlier than Giles, and we crept out to the kitchen to make breakfast together.
Jily "Okay, let me just go wake Giles up. You wait here."
Marie "Okay!"
I left a chipper Marie in the kitchen and headed into the bedroom, where Giles was still in bed.
Jily "Good morning, Giles!"
Giles "Is that you, Jily?"
Giles rolled over and responded to my greeting, but he made no move to get up.
Jily "Giles? Are you okay?"
Giles "Ten more minutes..."
(You look so sleepy, Giles.)
I'd never seen him like that before, and I couldn't help but smile.
(I think this might be the first time I've ever been here to wake you up in the morning.
(I like getting to see a side of you I've never seen before.)
Jily "Marie is looking forward to having breakfast with you."
Giles "Marie?"
Giles put an arm up over his face, and sighed softly.
Then he lowered his arm again and looked up at me, his gaze piercing.
Giles "I didn't get a chance last night.
Giles "But this morning I would like to taste you before breakfast."
(What?)
Before I could react, Giles reached out and pulled me down onto the bed with him.
Giles "Jily—"
He pulled me into a rough embrace, his breath warm and inviting against my neck.
Jily "Giles—"
I laughed helplessly, trying to struggle out of his grip.
But then I heard the door open, and I turned to see Marie staring at us with wide, disbelieving eyes.
Marie "Giles? Jily?"
Giles, Chapter 2, Part 5/5:
Marie "Giles? Jily?"
She looked shocked and upset, and I was struck with a sudden sense of guilt.
Jily "Marie, we were just—"
Marie "You're horrible, Jily!
Marie "You know Giles is my prince!"
Her voice was trembling, and tears began to spill down her cheeks.
Marie "I hate you both!!"
She yelled the words as she turned and ran out of the room.
Jily "Marie!"
I started to scramble off the bed to run after her, but Giles caught my arm.
Giles "Jily, wait."
Jily "Giles—"
Giles "I have a pretty good idea of where she's likely to go."
Giles sat up and reached for his clothes as he climbed out of bed.
Giles "Let's get dressed before we go chasing after her."
Giles, Chapter 3, Part 1/5:
Giles and I left the cottage and headed out in search of Marie.
Jily "How long have you known how she felt about you?"
I looked up at Giles as we walked through the town.
Giles "Well... since I first met her, I suppose."
Jily "That quickly?"
Giles "Yes. The way she looked at me reminded me of the way you look at me."
Giles gave me a faint smile, and I couldn't help but blush to be compared to a child.
Giles "What did you tell her when you found out how she felt?"
Jily "Well, I didn't end up telling her anything."
(I had no idea what to say.)
Giles "I see."
I couldn't stop picturing Marie's tear-streaked face, and I chewed my lower lip.
(I don't know what to do next, but I feel awful about the whole thing.)
My shoulders slumped as regret overwhelmed me.
Giles reached out and took my hand in his, squeezing my fingers gently.
Giles "She's so determined, it's no wonder you couldn't say anything.
Giles "I'll explain things to her, so please don't worry about it."
(Oh, Giles—)
Giles's hand was warm and reassuring in mine, and I took comfort from it.
Then I suddenly realized something.
(Marie took a chance and told me how she really feels.
(I should have said something, at least.)
***
We walked through town and out the other side, and eventually we arrived at a beautiful lake.
Giles "I was right—there she is."
Giles, Chapter 3, Part 2/5:
Giles "I was right—there she is."
Giles walked over to a large tree stump that stood near the shore of the lake.
Marie "Giles..."
Marie was crouched in the stump's shadow, her face still streaked with tears.
Giles "This place looks just like the place in the book where the princess met her prince.
Giles "I only mentioned it once, yet you made it all the way here by yourself."
Marie crouched there in silence, not even responding to Giles's words.
Giles watched her for a moment, then smiled gently and leaned closer.
Giles "I've come to get you.
Giles "Let's go home together."
Giles held out his hand to Marie, waiting patiently for her answer.
She glanced up at him, but instead of taking his hand, she whispered,
Marie "Um, Giles? I love you."
Giles's smile faded a little at her words.
He slowly crouched down in front of her, looking right into her eyes.
He reached out and gently wiped away her tears, and then smiled again.
Giles "I love you too, Marie."
Giles, Chapter 3, Part 3/5:
Giles "I love you too, Marie.
Giles "But when I say 'love,' it has a different meaning as it does when you say it."
Marie "What?
Marie "You mean love isn't always love?"
Marie looked up at Giles with wide, confused eyes.
He smiled gently at her, nodding his head slowly.
Giles "When you get older, you'll understand better what I mean.
Giles "But for now, let's go home, okay?"
***
We returned to the house, but Marie was still gloomy and mopey.
(It doesn't matter how old you are—if you love someone, you love them.
(That's why I—)
Jily "I'm sorry, Marie."
Marie was slouching on the sofa, and I knelt down in front of her.
I placed my hand on her knee as I spoke, and she blinked up at me.
Marie "Why are you apologizing?"
Jily "Because I didn't say anything when you told me that you love Giles.
Jily "But the truth is, I feel the same way you do.
Jily "I love Giles, too."
Marie "Jily..."
Giles, Chapter 3, Part 4/5:
Jily "But the truth is, I feel the same way you do.
Jily "I love Giles, too."
Marie "Jily..."
Marie caught her breath as she stared up at me with wide eyes.
Giles "Jily? Marie?"
At that moment, Giles stepped into the room from the bedroom.
Marie "Giles!"
Marie scrambled down off the sofa and rushed towards Giles.
He knelt down and she leapt straight into his arms.
Marie "When I watched you, I could tell that you love Jily too.
Marie "But—when I look at you I get all giddy inside."
(Oh, Marie.)
Marie was just a little girl, yet her expression was so serious, her words so determined.
I felt so sad for her in that moment, and I watched in silence as she stared up at Giles.
Marie "Giles?"
She stood up on tiptoe, and kissed Giles on the cheek.
Giles "Marie—"
Marie "It's true, I love you.
Marie "Please, Jily. Please can I have Giles to myself, just for today?"
There was such desperation in her voice that I found myself nodding.
(I see Giles every day, but this is the last day you'll get to spend with him like this.)
Jily "Of course."
***
That evening—
Giles, Chapter 3, Part 5/5:
Giles "She's asleep at last."
Jily "Good."
I peeked into the bedroom, where Marie was sound asleep on the far side of the bed.
(She looks so innocent and sweet when she's asleep.
(Yet she's so determined when she's awake!)
I smiled to myself as I remembered the moment when she'd kissed Giles on the cheek.
Giles was lying in the middle of the bed, and I sat down on the edge of it.
Giles "That said—
Giles "Watching the two of you fight over me was something to behold."
Jily "We weren't fighting—"
I realized Giles was grinning at me, and I blushed a little.
Giles "I know it sounds like I'm teasing you, but I don't mean to make you feel foolish.
Giles "The truth is, it made me happy."
(Oh—)
Giles rolled over in bed towards me, and pulled me down into his arms.
Giles "But I did tell you I would explain things to Marie. What made you decide to tell her first?"
Jily "I understand how she feels. After all, I love you too."
(If our positions were reversed, I would want her to tell me the truth too.)
Giles reached out and tucked my hair behind my ear, his long fingers lingering against my cheek.
Giles "You always say the sweetest things.
Giles "It distresses me that I can't do more than just hold you right now."
Even as he spoke, we heard a soft murmuring sigh from Marie as she rolled over in her sleep.
Giles and I sat up slowly, looking down at her sleeping face.
Giles "Tomorrow is our third day, and Marie will be returning to the orphanage.
Giles "How would you like to spend our last day together?"
Jily "Well—"
Giles "Tomorrow it will be just the two of us again.
Giles "We'll be like newlyweds, alone together without a care in the world but each other."
Giles's words were full of promise, and my heart began to race in anticipation.

Giles "Tomorrow it will be just the two of us again.
Giles "We'll be like newlyweds, alone together without a care in the world but each other."
There was a sensual edge to Giles's voice, and it set my heart pounding.
(Oh, Giles—)
I couldn't quite think of what to say, and Giles stroked my hair gently, smiling at me.
I could see the matching ring on his finger, the ruby sparkling faintly in the dim light.
(The last day of our married life. How DO I want to spend it?
(If Giles and I really were married—)
Jily "I'd like you to let me spoil you."
Giles "What?"
Giles's eyes widened in surprise at my words, and I smiled up at him.
Jily "When I'm working, you're always right there supporting me.
Jily "If we were to get married, I'd like to be able to support you, too."
Giles "I see."
Giles slid his hand down to caress my cheek, and said softly,
Giles "Are you sure you don't mind spoiling me?"
Jily "Of course not."
Giles's deep red eyes narrowed as he smiled sweetly.
Giles "In that case, I know what I want."
Giles, Chapter 4-Sweet Ending, Part 2/5:
Giles "In that case, I know what I want."
Giles leaned towards me, until his lips were all but touching mine.
(Giles—)
My heart skipped a beat, my shoulders quivering in anticipation as I looked up at Giles.
His eyes were burning with desire as he smiled slowly.
Giles "This."
At last his lips pressed against mine, his kiss warm and needy.
Passion burned through me, and I gasped softly as our lips parted again.
Jily "Giles—"
Giles "I want to have you all to myself, the whole day long."
Giles climbed out of bed, and then lifted me in his arms.
(Wait a minute—)
Jily "Where are we going?"
But Giles only smiled as he cradled me against his chest and carried me towards the door.
He carried me across to the sofa and set me down against the cushions.
Jily "Seriously, Giles—"
Before I could say anything more, he reached out a pressed a shushing finger against my lips.
Giles "You should keep your voice down.
Giles "Otherwise Marie will wake up."
My mouth closed with a snap—I'd all but forgotten that Marie was asleep in the other room.
Giles smiled as he leaned over and began to rain kisses down my neck.
I gasped softly, leaning back against the sofa cushions, when—
Giles "At this hour? Really?"
There was a sudden knock at the door, and Giles frowned as he looked over his shoulder.
He kissed me gently on the cheek and then crossed the room to the door.
Giles, Chapter 4-Sweet Ending, Part 3/5:
Giles opened the door to find a servant from the palace waiting outside.
Servant "Sir Giles, I've been asked to inform you that there are some documents that urgently require the princess's attention.
Servant "Here is a list of the items that need to be checked."
Giles "Thank you. I will speak with the princess."
Giles shut the door and walked back to where I sat, a piece of parchment in his hand.
Jily "This is a lot of work."
Giles "If they really need this much of you, I suppose we won't have much chance to relax."
Jily "I guess not.
Jily "We should probably head straight back to the palace tomorrow after we see Marie off."
Giles "Yes."
Looking down at the parchment reminded me of all the duties waiting for me at the palace.
(I've enjoyed playing at being married to Giles.
(But my work as the princess is really important to me.)
Giles "So I suppose I shall have to wait—again—before I can enjoy you properly."
Giles grumbled the words, and I giggled softly.
Jily "Never mind. C'mon, we should get back to bed with Marie."
I stood up and took his hand, and we headed back into the bedroom together.
***
And so our married life ended earlier than expected, and we returned to the palace.
Our lives went back to normal, our work as busy as ever, until one night—
(I wonder what he wants to talk about?)
I'd been summoned by Giles, and I hurried down the corridor, my skirts swirling around my legs.
Giles, Chapter 4-Sweet Ending, Part 4/5:
Jily "Excuse me."
I knocked at the door and then stepped into the room, and Giles looked up from the documents he was reading.
Giles "There you are."
Jily "You wanted to talk to me about something?"
Giles "Yes, I did. Please come over here."
I walked over to Giles's desk, and he stood up, showing me a piece of parchment he was working on.
Giles "I'm currently preparing a report about our married life.
Giles "However, there is one matter that I'm unable to report on."
Jily "What?"
Giles frowned down at the parchment, lightly tapping a blank spot in the middle of it.
Giles "There were no problems related to taking care of a child, or living as a family. However—"
Giles lowered the parchment, and then moved closer to me.
(Giles?)
Without thinking I took a step back, and a moment later found myself up against the wall.
Giles placed his hand against the wall next to my head, leaning closer to study my expression.
Giles "I don't believe there was enough practice of time spent alone with my wife.
Giles "So I cannot evaluate how good you are at spending the night with your husband."
(Spending the night with—)
Giles, Chapter 4-Sweet Ending, Part 5/5:
Giles "So I cannot evaluate how good you are at spending the night with your husband."
My eyes widened in surprise as I realized where this was leading.
Jily "I don't think you need to report about that!"
Giles "But it's very important—you will need to produce an heir one day.
Giles "I must be certain you fully understand what that entails."
His expression was serious, but I could see the impish sparkle in his gaze.
He slid his finger under my chin, lifting my face towards him.
Giles "I think it's about time we got some more practice in."
His lips captured mine in a sudden, vibrant kiss, and I gasped as desire flooded through me.
Jily "Giles—"
Giles smiled at last, that light still dancing in his eyes as he pressed his body up against mine.
Giles "Considering the look in your eyes right now—
Giles "I feel certain I will have plenty to write in the report later."
Jily "C'mon, Giles—"
I laughed helplessly, my cheeks flushing as I imagined what he might write, and who might read it.
(And if you and I get married one day—
(I can look forward to your playful teasing every day, can't I?)
My heart was filled with joy as I imagined what future lay before us.
I reached up and wrapped my arms around him, giving in to his sweet kisses...

Giles, Chapter 4-Premium Ending, Part 1/5:
Giles "Tomorrow it will be just the two of us again.
Giles "We'll be like newlyweds, alone together without a care in the world but each other."
There was a sensual edge to Giles's voice, and it set my heart pounding.
I couldn't quite think of what to say, and Giles stroked my hair gently, smiling at me.
I could see the matching ring on his finger, the ruby sparkling faintly in the dim light.
(The last day of our married life. How DO I want to spend it?
(If Giles and I really were married—)
Jily "I want to go on a little trip with you."
Giles "A trip?"
Jily "Yes. When we're at the palace, there's a limit to the time we can spend together, or the places we can go.
Jily "I'd love to go outside and relax somewhere with you, like a real vacation."
(Do you feel the same way?)
I waited hesitantly for his reply, and to my relief he smiled.
Giles "You're right.
Giles "I think it would be nice to get away from work and go out and relax."
(Oh, good!)
There was a gentleness to Giles's smile that sent a flood of warmth right through me.
A moment later Marie rolled over in her sleep, murmuring softly.
Marie "Nnnnn—
Marie "Giles... Jily..."
Marie was smiling as she mumbled our names, her eyes still firmly shut.
Jily "She's smiling at last."
I looked up and met Giles's gaze, and we smiled at each other.
Giles "Perhaps it's about time we got some sleep too."
Jily "Probably."
I moved around to the other side of the bed so that Marie would be in the middle.
I lay down facing Giles, and we both looked down at the sleeping Marie.
Giles "There's something about this that makes me so happy."
Jily "Me too."
Giles reached out towards me, and we linked hands in the air above Marie.
We both leaned down and kissed Marie's cheeks at the same time.
***
The next morning, we said farewell to Marie as she went back to the orphanage.
Giles, Chapter 4-Premium Ending, Part 2/5:
After leaving the orphanage, we went on a trip into town together.
Stalls were lined up on the streets selling everything from fruit to jewelry, and the crowds were bustling and buzzing.
Jily "There's so many people!"
Giles "Well, today really is a holiday, so I guess it's no surprise."
As he spoke, Giles reached out and took my hand, twining his fingers tightly with mine.
Jily "Giles?"
Giles "I'm just making sure we don't get separated."
Giles smiled gently at me, and I felt a flutter of excitement in my tummy.
Giles "Why don't we walk around the market for a while?"
Jily "Okay!"
I glanced down at our linked hands, and then smiled brightly up at him.
(We're just like a married couple right now. It makes me so happy.)
***
We'd been wandering for a while when we came across a wagon selling ice cream.
(Wow, that looks so delicious.)
Giles "Do you want some?"
Jily "Do you mind?"
Giles "Not at all.
Giles "Pick whatever flavor you like."
His cheerful smile filled me with happiness, and I turned to look at the wagon.
I asked for strawberry ice cream, and when it was ready Giles handed it to me.
Giles "Here you go, Jily."
Jily "Thank you!"
I smiled happily at him as I took it, and the shopkeeper said to us,
Shopkeeper "Are you newlyweds? You're both so happy, I'm almost envious."
Jily "What?"
Shopkeeper "I can tell by your rings."
He winked at us, and I looked down at the ring on my finger.
(Of course... we must look like newlyweds to everyone else.)
His words made me both happy and embarrassed all at once, and I smiled shyly at him.
He turned to look at Giles, and spoke again.
Shopkeeper "You have a beautiful wife.
Shopkeeper "You must be very happy."
I blushed in surprise at his words, looking up at Giles.
Giles, Chapter 4-Premium Ending, Part 3/5:
The ice cream seller turned to look at Giles, and spoke again.
Shopkeeper "You have a beautiful wife.
Shopkeeper "You must be very happy."
Giles looked down at me, and his face creased into a smile.
Giles "Yes, she's the most wonderful wife in the world."
There was no hesitation at all in his words, and I blushed again, my heart racing.
***
We left the market behind us and wandered the streets as we ate our ice creams.
Giles "It's nice just to wander around like this, isn't it?"
Jily "Yes, it really is!"
I smiled up at Giles, but then he looked down at my hand and stopped walking.
Giles "Jily.
Giles "Your ice cream is about to melt and drip everywhere."
He lifted the hand holding my ice cream towards him,
and took a large bite from the cone.
Giles "That was close."
He smiled at me, and I realized there was a crumb of cone on his chin.
(And here I thought I was the only one who got food on my face.)
I giggled at the unexpected sight, feeling better somehow.
Jily "Giles, hold still."
I reached into my bag for a handkerchief, and then carefully wiped the crumb from Giles's chin.
(Got it.)
Jily "There you go."
I looked up at Giles and found him gazing down at me.
There was something intense about his gaze that set my heart pounding.
Giles "Right now, I feel like I'd rather eat you than the ice cream."
I caught my breath as his face moved towards mine, when—
Without warning it began to rain down on us.
(But the sky was clear just a minute ago!)
Giles "It looks like a passing shower.
Giles "But we should find somewhere to wait it out before we get any wetter."
Giles took me by the hand, and we began to run through the rain.
Giles, Chapter 4-Premium Ending, Part 4/5:
Giles and I ran through the town until we found ourselves in a garden.
As we took shelter under an arch, Giles reached out and touched my hair.
Giles "We really did get rather wet, didn't we?"
Jily "Yes."
I peered out from under the arch to look up at the sky overhead.
(It's really coming down.)
Giles "You're making me very happy, but—did you do it on purpose?"
Jily "Do what?"
Giles was leaning against the other side of the arch, his gaze on my dress.
I followed his gaze to the top of my dress.
The ribbon tied across my breasts had come undone and they were in danger of peeking out.
Jily "Ahh!"
(Did it come undone when we were running?)
I reached up hastily to fix it, but my fingers were wet and I couldn't seem to get it right.
Giles "Here, let me."
Jily "Giles—"
Giles stepped across the small space separating us and gently pushed my hands away.
He took hold of the ends of the ribbon and began to tighten it for me.
(Oh gosh, this is so embarrassing.)
The sound of my pounding heart completely drowned out the sound of the pouring rain.
Giles "Jily."
Jily "Yes?"
Giles tied the ribbon in a neat bow, and dropped his hands.
He leaned closer, his breath warm against my ear as he whispered,
Giles "You seem to be blushing, or am I imagining things?"
Giles, Chapter 4-Premium Ending, Part 5/5:
Giles "You seem to be blushing, or am I imagining things?"
The rain from his hair dripped on my shoulder, and I shivered as it trickled down my bare skin.
Jily "Well, I just—"
I dropped my gaze, but Giles slid his hand under my chin, lifting my face towards him.
Giles "You're making that face again."
Giles narrowed his eyes slightly, and a moment later he was kissing me.
His kisses were warmer than ever in contrast to the chill of the rain.
I leaned back against the arch as he pressed his warm body up against mine.
Our lips parted for a moment, both of us gasping, and then he kissed me again.
(You're like a different person, Giles.)
His kisses were deep enough to leave me light-headed, and I gasped again as our lips parted at last.
Giles "If we were to get married, I fear we might end up doing this all day long."
Jily "Really?"
Giles "Well, you certainly know how to get me all hot and bothered.
Giles "Every little thing you do—"
Giles cut himself off mid-sentence and kissed me again.
His lips were hot with desire, and I felt as if I were drowning in happiness.
(We're only pretending, yet I'm so happy right now.
(If we really did get married—
(Would every single day be this happy? Happier still?)
Our lips parted again, and I smiled up at him as I said,
Jily "Am I a good wife for you, then?"
Giles "Oh yes. You are the best wife a man could hope for."
Giles's gaze was filled with affection as he leaned close and pressed his forehead against mine.
Giles "I want to spend all my holidays with you like this.
Giles "Just holding you in my arms is enough to banish even the memory of feeling exhausted."
(I understand. I always feel so safe and sure when I'm in your arms.)
I smiled up at Giles, and then buried my face in his chest.
The gentle sound of the pouring rain seemed to wrap around us, hiding us from the world...

Find out what happens afterwards in a sexy After Episode...
After spending three blissful days as newlyweds with Giles,
he's quite ready to practice trying for kids of your own!
Giles "At the time, I only said what I did because I was teasing you.
Giles "But the truth is, I think I would enjoy a spot of practice right now."
Before I could say anything more, he pressed a soft kiss against my collarbone, and I gasped.
Giles "If I had a child with you, I'm sure it would be adorable."
Make sure you practice all parts of married life!
Read this extra-special Giles story to discover his passion.
Our married life was over, and we were back to our usual life in the palace.
Giles "Next you will be having tea with a visiting noble from another country.
Giles "After that..."
Giles was explaining my schedule to me as we made our way through the palace.
As we walked past an open door, I heard the voices of the maids inside chattering.
Maid 1 "Did you hear? The princess and Sir Giles went off and practiced being married!"
Maid 2 "Wait, does that mean they slept in the same bed at night too?"
Maid 3 "But then—you know what that means!"
The maids were giggling as they chattered, and my face turned bright red.
(I had no idea they'd be talking about us like that!)
I dropped my gaze, but a moment later Giles lifted my chin.
Giles "You're blushing, Princess."
Jily "Well—"
Having it pointed out only made me blush more, and I pressed my hands against my hot cheeks.
Giles glanced at me out of the corner of his eye, and then chuckled softly.
Giles "I will gladly welcome you anytime."
Jily "What? What do you mean?"
Giles "If you want to practice making babies."
Jily "Giles!!"
Giles ignored my scowl as he stopped outside the door to the guest room.
Giles "Please do your best today, Princess.
Giles "You might want to calm that blush down before you greet our guest."
(Easier said than done!)
Jily "Okay, okay."
I took a deep breath and then let it out again, trying to calm my thoughts and focus on work.
I shook my head to clear it, and then knocked on the door and stepped into the guest room.
***
That evening—
After I'd finished my work for the day, I paid a visit to Giles's room.
Giles "Please, come in."
Jily "Thank you."
Giles prepared a cup of jasmine-scented hot milk for me.
(It's been a while since I've been in your room like this, Giles.)
I sat down on the sofa and quietly drank the warm milk.
I finished it and placed the cup on the table, and Giles stepped closer to study me for a moment.
Giles "When you work, you always look so elegant, just like a princess should.
Giles "But sometimes you seem so young and innocent."
Jily "Giles?"
Giles reached out and wiped the edge of my mouth with his thumb.
(Did I have a milk moustache? Oh gosh.)
Jily "Oops. Sorry."
I smiled shyly as I reached up to touch my mouth, and Giles laughed.
Giles "You only ever do things like that when you're with me. So it makes me happy.
Giles "I also like it when you look like this..."
(Oh!)
Giles leaned across the sofa armrest and pressed a gentle kiss against my lips.
Giles "You looked all flushed and wanton."
Jily "Well, that's your fault!"
Giles "And why is that?"
Giles placed his knee on the sofa and leaned close to whisper in my ear.
I fell back against the sofa cushions, looking up at him with wide eyes.
Giles "Now that I think about it, you were all flushed when the maids were chattering this morning.
Giles "What exactly were you imagining?"
Giles leaned over me with a smile, his long body pressing lightly against mine.
Jily "Well—"
Desire was burning deep in his gaze, and amusement as well, and I pouted a little.
Jily "I think you already know the answer to that."
Giles's smile widened, and then he laughed softly.
Giles "Am I teasing you too much?
Giles "You're right, I do know."
He reached down towards me, sliding his long fingers under the straps of my dress.
Giles "At the time, I only said what I did because I was teasing you.
Giles "But the truth is, I think I would enjoy a spot of practice right now."
Jily "Giles—"
Before I could say anything more, he pressed a soft kiss against my collarbone, and I gasped.
Giles "If I had a child with you, I'm sure it would be adorable."
His expression was filled with need, and excitement thrummed through me.
He kissed my forehead, my eyelids, and then my nose, until at last he found my lips.
It was a gentle kiss at first, and I closed my eyes, smiling.
But it soon grew deeper and more passionate as our mouths moved eagerly together.
I gasped softly as our lips parted for a moment and then came together again.
I reached up, wrapping my arms around him, clinging to his broad back.
Giles "You are so beautiful when I'm kissing you.
Giles "But I'm not sure we can call this a proper practice."
Giles lifted himself up slightly to gaze down at me.
Giles "If we were married, I think I would be sad to only give kisses and never receive them.
Giles "Would you please kiss me, too?"
(You want me to kiss you?)
It wasn't something he seemed to want often, and I blinked up at him in surprise.
Jily "Are you sure?"
Giles "Well, if you don't think you can..."
He trailed off, his words challenging, and I pressed my lips together.
(That wasn't what I meant!)
I reached up to touch his cheek, and lifted my head to kiss him softly on the lips.
Jily "How was that?"
Giles "That was unexpected.
Giles "I didn't expect your kisses to be so sweet."
Jily "Well—"
I met his gaze steadily, hearing the sound of my pulse racing in my ears.
Jily "I want to be the best wife I can be for you. I want to do it right."
Giles's eyes widened in surprise at my words.
For a moment he simply stared down at me, and then I saw a flush creeping up his cheeks.
Giles "How do you always know just what to say?
Giles "If that's how you feel, I think it's time we got serious about making sure we can do this right."
He gave me a chagrined smile, and kissed me lightly on the lips.
Giles "That's enough kissing practice for now.
Giles "Next I think it's time I practice touching you."
His smile turned wicked as he leaned down and began to run his hands along my body...
