A Wedding Story Event-My Sweet Baby(Sid)
Prologue:
Sweet white and pink flowers bloomed everywhere in the town, giving it a bright, fresh vibe.
It was a season for new beginnings, a season for things to change.
Giles "You will have a special job to do starting from tomorrow."
Giles reached out to pull open a drawer in the desk as he spoke.
Giles "This is the season in Wysteria when thoughts turn to marriage.
Giles "But you have not yet chosen a prince consort."
Giles removed something from the drawer and closed it again.
Then he held out his hand, offering it to me.
Giles "A day will come soon enough when you will be married.
Giles "I would like you to practice what that's like for just three days."
Atop Giles's hand was a small box, the outside made of plush velvet.
Giles "I will leave the choice up to you.
Giles "Who will be your husband for the next three days?"
I stared up at him with wide eyes as I reached out to take the small box from him.
(I'm supposed to choose a husband? Then what's this?)
I hesitated for a moment, and then opened the box.
Inside I found two rings, sparkling brightly...

Sid, Chapter 1, Part 1/5:
Giles "I will leave the choice up to you.
Giles "Who will be your husband for the next three days?"
I opened the small box Giles had given me and found two rings nestled inside.
(I'm meant to choose a husband? Then these are—)
Jily "Are these rings for us to wear?"
Giles "Yes, they are.
Giles "Now, is there someone in particular you would like to choose?"
At Giles's question, an image of Sid flashed through my mind.
(If it really is okay for me to choose anyone at all—)
Jily "I would like to choose Sid."
Giles nodded and pulled his pocketwatch out of his pocket to check the time.
Giles "I believe Sid is due to arrive very soon anyway.
Giles "I will inform him of your choice."
***
A short while later—
I returned to my room to take a short break from work, but moments later there was a knock at the door.
(I wonder who that is?)
Jily "Come in!"
Sid "Here you are."
The door opened and Sid stepped in, and my eyes widened in surprise.
Jily "Oh! Sid—"
(I wonder if Giles has already spoken to you?)
Sid crossed the room towards me, and my heart began to pound in anticipation.
Sid "What's with that face? I came all this way to get you and everything.
Sid "What, are you blushing?
Sid "I thought you were the one who said you wanted me to be your husband."
Jily "I didn't say it like that—"
I pouted up at Sid, my cheeks flushing, and he grinned down at me.
Sid "Ahh, you're so easy to read."
Sid laughed as he stopped in front of me, looking down into my eyes.
Sid "So, you gonna hand it over?"
Sid, Chapter 1, Part 2/5:
Sid "So, you gonna hand it over?"
(What?)
I blinked up at him in confusion, waiting for him to explain.
Sid "The rings."
Jily "Oh! Right."
I pulled out the box and handed it to Sid, and he opened it.
He pulled out one of the rings, its blue gemstone sparkling in the light.
Sid "Give me your left hand."
I hesitantly held out my left hand, my fingers spread out.
Sid took my hand in his and gently slid the ring onto my ring finger.
Then he took the second ring from the box and put it on his own ring finger.
I held my hand up next to his, admiring how the rings matched.
(It's like a game, and I feel kind of silly... and yet, I feel all happy and warm, too.)
Jily "I wonder if it'd be like this if we really did get married?"
Sid "Probably."
My own voice was soft with wonder, and Sid's expression relaxed into a smile.
(And Sid and I will get to live together while we do this practice, right?
(Ahh heck, just thinking about it gets me all excited.)
My heart fluttered at my own imaginings, and right then Sid said,
Sid "I'm looking forward to finding out what kinda wife you are."
Jily "Well, you're not the only one who's curious.
Jily "I want to know what sort of husband you'll be."
Sid "You sure about that?
Sid "I hope you're ready for the next three days."
(Three days playing husband and wife with you—I wonder how it's gonna turn out?)
I looked up at Sid, filled with an odd mix of hope, excitement and anxiety.
But most of all, I could hardly wait for our married life to start.
Sid, Chapter 1, Part 3/5:
At last the next day finally arrived, and our married life began.
(Ahh, this really takes me back.)
It had been decided that Sid and I would live in the house where I'd lived in town before becoming princess.
I looked around the room as I carried my bag through the door.
But a moment later the weight of my luggage vanished.
Jily "Wha—"
Sid "Carry this one, it's smaller."
Sid was holding my heavy bag in one hand, and offering me a smaller bag with the other.
I took it from him, relieved to find that it weighed a lot less.
Jily "Thank you."
(Every time I'm with you—
(I'm reminded all over again of how kind you are under that gruff exterior.)
My heart filled with warmth at the way he was always thinking of me.
At last we sat down together and began to unpack our luggage.
Sid peered into one of the bags and grinned suddenly.
Sid "Hey, is this your underwear?"
Sid reached into the bag and pulled out a negligee.
Jily "Sid, that's—"
I reached out hurriedly, trying to grab the negligee away from him.
But he smirked with amusement, holding it up out of my reach.
Jily "Ahh!"
As I reached higher to snatch it from him, I lost my balance and fell on top of him, and we both toppled onto the ground.
Suddenly his handsome face was much closer than I was expecting.
Sid "Are you trying to take advantage of me?"
Jily "No! I just—"
I laughed helplessly, trying to cover up the sudden pounding of my heart.
But a moment later Sid wrapped his arms around me.
Jily "Sid—"
He rolled us both over so that I was lying on the ground and he was kneeling on top of me.
Sid "Well then, let me take advantage of you.
Sid "I'm happy to do that any ol' time."
Sid, Chapter 1, Part 4/5:
Sid "Well then, let me take advantage of you.
Sid "I'm happy to do that any ol' time."
His voice was teasing as he reached down to cup my cheek with one hand.
His eyes crinkled as he grinned wider and leaned towards me.
(Geez, Sid, you've been setting the pace since we got here. I think it's my turn.)
Before he could move any further, I propped my arms up behind me and sat up.
I pressed my lips against his in a sudden, fervent kiss.
Sid's eyes widened in surprise as our lips parted.
For a moment he looked confused, and I grinned up at him.
(I don't like it when you're always in control. I need to have my own way, too!)
Jily "Sometimes you have to let me take charge."
I looked up at him defiantly, and his expression relaxed into a grin again.
Sid "Ahh, you're so cute when you get all feisty."
Sid reached out and caressed my cheek gently with the back of his hand.
Sid "Okay, I give in. I surrender. I'm all yours."
His voice was still teasing, but there was a gentleness to his smile that set my heart pounding again.
I felt a sudden burst of happiness as I imagined how the rest of our married life might go.
(One minute you're teasing me, the next minute you're sweet and kind.
(Life's never dull with you, is it Sid?)
I lifted my chin and kissed him again, closing my eyes as I wrapped my arms around him.
***
The day went by in a flash, full of fun and laughter, and all too soon it was late evening.
I climbed into bed, but as I did so—
Jily "Sid! Hang on—"
Sid, Chapter 1, Part 5/5:
Jily "Sid! Hang on—"
Sid was already lying in bed waiting for me, and as soon as I climbed in,
he grabbed me from behind, wrapping his arms around me and pulling me close.
Sid "That's better."
He slid my nightgown up and wrapped his arms around my bare stomach.
Sid "There we go. You can be my pillow tonight."
He snuggled up against me, his head nuzzling in my hair.
(I'm not sure I want to be relegated to just being a pillow!)
My heart was still pounding with anticipation, and Sid laughed softly in my ear.
Sid "You're thinking naughty things, aren't you?"
Jily "Maybe."
Sid "Well, save it for now. It's our first night.
Sid "Let's get all wild on our last night instead."
Jily "Geez, Sid."
Sid laughed again and snuggled closer still, and I sighed softly.
A part of me was disappointed, but at the same time I felt reassured by his warmth pressed so close against me.
I reached down and placed my hands over his where they rested against my stomach.
(I can't remember the last time I felt so happy.)
I breathed out slowly, my whole body relaxing into Sid's embrace.
Before I even realized it I'd fallen sound asleep.
***
The next morning dawned bright, the sun shining in through the window.
(Nnnnn—)
I was still only half-awake when I felt Sid shaking my leg gently.
Sid "C'mon, time to get up."
Jily "Sid?"
Sid "Breakfast's ready."
Sid, Chapter 2, Part 1/5:
Sid "Breakfast's ready."
(Wait, what?)
I sat up with a start, and only then did I smell the delicious scent wafting in from the kitchen.
I hurriedly climbed out of bed and followed Sid to the dining table.
Two plates were already set out ready and waiting, piled high with freshly cooked bacon and scrambled eggs.
Jily "Did you make breakfast for me? I'm sorry, I wasn't thinking—"
Sid "Huh? C'mon, it's not like it's a woman's job to make all the food."
Jily "Well—"
I still felt guilty somehow for not helping, but Sid reached out and mussed my hair gently.
Sid "Whoever gets up first gets to make food, okay?
Sid "C'mon, eat up before it gets cold."
(You really are so sweet, Sid.)
Jily "Thank you."
I sat down in my chair and began to eat the food laid out before me.
Jily "Oh wow, it's so good!"
Sid "I know, right?"
Sid paused with his fork halfway to his mouth, eyeing me curiously.
Sid "You've got some on you."
He reached out and gently wiped the corner of my mouth with his thumb.
(Oops!)
I watched as he lifted his thumb to his mouth and licked the crumb off it.
Sid "Yum."
Jily "Sid—"
There was a devilish light in his eyes, and my heart began to race, but right then—
Sid "Wha?"
There was a knock at the front door.
Sid made a disgruntled noise as he got up to answer it.
(But who'd be visiting us today?)
I watched curiously as Sid opened the door, but to my surprise he crouched down right away.
Sid "Huh?
Sid "Who the heck are you?"
Sid, Chapter 2, Part 2/5:
Our visitor was a very young boy with blond hair and hazel eyes.
Boy "Here."
Sid "What?"
The boy walked straight into the room, handing Sid a letter as he did so.
Then he sat down on the sofa with a solid thump.
Sid stood up, scanning the contents of the letter, and then sighed.
Sid "It's from the palace. It says to take care of the kid.
Sid "Something about the orphanage being short-handed. They need us to help for a day or two."
Jily "Wow, really?"
Sid "What's yer name, kid?"
Sid crossed to the sofa and crouched down again, bringing himself to eye level with the boy.
Boy "Jess."
Sid's eyes widened in surprise at the answer, his whole body going still.
(But that's the same name as Sid's dog!)
I was startled into silence by the unexpected coincidence.
Sid glanced at me for a moment, and then frowned and stood up.
Sid "Well, don't get too friendly."
Jess looked up at Sid with narrow eyes, his expression wary.
Jess "Just so you know, you don't have to treat me like a kid or anything.
Jess "Anyway, I wanna go for a walk. But if I go alone someone'll think I'm lost, so come with me."
Jess crossed his ankles and sat there staring calmly at us both.
Sid fell silent, staring back at him.
I was completely lost for words as well, and I glanced at Sid.
(He's so grown up he's hardly like a kid at all!)
Sid, Chapter 2, Part 3/5:
Jess wanted to go out, so Sid and I took him for a walk around town.
It was a day off, and the market was lively and crowded.
(There's even more people out today than I expected.)
Sid "Hey. It's dangerous, give me your hand."
Sid reached out to take Jess's hand, but Jess pulled back, turning away in a huff.
Jess "Don't treat me like a kid."
Jess folded his arms across his chest, his voice sharp and annoyed.
Sid scowled and crouched down so he was eye height with the boy.
Sid "You sure have an attitude, kid.
Sid "Well, in that case—"
Jess "Waaah?!"
Sid grabbed Jess around the waist and lifted him into the air.
A moment later he settled the boy on his shoulders.
Sid "Hold on tight or you'll fall off."
Jess "I said, don't treat me like a kid!"
Sid "I'm not. This works out better for me."
Sid turned to look at me and held out his hand.
Sid "You too, c'mon."
Jily "Me too?"
I frowned dubiously at Sid, and one corner of his mouth lifted in a smirk.
Sid "When it comes down to it, I'm more worried about you than I am about Jess."
Jily "Geez, Sid."
I stuck my tongue out at him, but I wasn't about to say no, so I reached out and took his hand.
(Look at the three of us.
(I wonder if we look like a real family to the people around us?)
I smiled as I fell into step with Sid, squeezing his hand gently.
I glanced up at Jess on his shoulders, who was looking pleased as he gazed all around him.
(Only moments ago you were complaining about being treated like a kid.
(Yet now here you are, looking like you're having a ball. Sid sure knows how to handle you.)
Sid, Chapter 2, Part 4/5:
We continued our walk until we eventually reached the plaza.
Jess "I wanna go play over there."
Jess pointed across the plaza as he spoke.
Sid "Off you go then."
Sid lifted Jess down from his shoulders and set him on the ground.
Jess "What? Really?"
Sid "Of course."
Sid ruffled Jess's hair, and the boy batted his hand away.
But he smiled happily as he dashed off across the plaza.
Jily "He tries to act so grown up, but he's just a regular little boy."
Sid "Yep."
Sid shoved his hands in his pockets as he watched Jess, a gentle smile on his face.
My heart skipped a beat as I looked up at him.
(You seem like you'd be a really good father one day.)
Jess "Hey, Sid! Play tag with me!"
Sid "Tag?"
Jess "Yep! Tag, you're it!"
Jess ran up and tapped Sid on the leg before running off again, and Sid gave a small sigh.
Sid "Geez, how much energy does that kid have, anyway?
Sid "I'll be back soon."
Jily "Have fun."
I laughed and waved, watching as the two of them ran off into the distance.
As I was standing there watching them play—
??? "Excuse me, miss?"
Sid, Chapter 2, Part 5/5:
Man "Excuse me, miss?"
I turned in surprise and found an unfamiliar man standing just behind me.
Jily "Yes?"
Man "Would you like to get a cup of coffee together?
Man "I think you're very beautiful."
Jily "Oh! I—"
Strangely, my first thought was to show him the ring on my finger, and yet I hesitated.
(But we're only playing at being married. It's not real.)
For some reason I couldn't bring myself to say it aloud, so I searched for another excuse.
Jily "I'm very sorry, but I'm waiting for someone."
Man "I see. Well, at least let me stay here and talk to you until they arrive."
Jily "Oh, um—I—"
The man began to chatter on at me before I could say no, and I didn't know quite how to make him go away.
(But I can't exactly leave either, or Sid won't know where to find me. Ahh, this sucks.)
***
Meanwhile, Sid and Jess were focused on their game of tag, until—
Jess "Hey, Sid?"
Sid "What?"
Jess "Over there."
Jess pointed across the plaza, and Sid turned to look.
He saw Jily looking incredibly uncomfortable as a man tried to chat her up.
Sid frowned and stood up straight, the game of tag forgotten.
Jess "Someone might steal her if you don't keep an eye on her.
Jess "She's not my type, but she's nice to be around."
Jess was trying to sound grown-up, but there was something shy about his manner, and Sid sighed.
Sid "Stop talking like you understand.
Sid "C'mon, let's go."
Sid, Chapter 3, Part 1/5:
The man just kept on talking cheerfully at me, completely ignoring anything I said.
(Geez, how on earth do I get rid of him?)
Jily "Um—I'm sorry, but the truth is, I'm marr—"
I tried at last to get his attention and show him my ring, but as I did—
Sid "You want something with my wife?"
(Oh!)
Without warning Sid appeared beside me, Jess at his heels.
Man "What? Your wife?!"
Jily "Yes. I was trying to tell you—we're married."
Sid "Unless you've got a good reason, I'd appreciate if you'd leave.
Sid "We have a kid too, you know."
Sid's smirk was calm and laidback, and Jess stepped in front of him, nodding firmly.
Man "What on earth—"
The man spluttered for a moment, but then he turned and hurried away.
(Oh, thank goodness.)
Jily "Thank you, Sid—"
I stopped mid-sentence as Sid reached out and pinched my cheek.
Sid "Geez, are you wearing special perfume or something? You're attracting 'em like flies."
Jily "No I'm not!
Jily "He just—he wouldn't take no for an answer, and it felt weird to say 'I'm married' when we're not."
I pressed my lips together in annoyance, and Sid made a frustrated noise in his throat.
Sid "Can't leave you alone for a minute. Something always seems to happen.
Sid "We should go home."
Sid turned away from me and crouched down to lift Jess onto his shoulders.
But instead of reaching out to take my hand, he turned and began to walk away.
(What are you so angry about?)
I sighed and hurried after him, feeling an ache of worry deep in my chest.
Sid, Chapter 3, Part 2/5:
The three of us returned to the house and sat down at the table to eat dinner.
Sid was frowning at his food instead of talking to either of us, and I didn't know what to say.
(Are you angry? I don't understand why.)
The atmosphere felt heavy and uncomfortable, and I turned to look at Jess.
Jily "Jess, do you want more dinner?"
Jess put his fork down on his plate, and shrugged with a sigh.
Jess "I'm okay. But tomorrow I have to go back, so tonight I want us to all sleep together."
Jily "What?"
***
I was more than a little startled by Jess's unexpected request, but I didn't have the heart to say no.
So the three of us lay down in bed together once dinner was finished.
Jess "I wanna be next to Jily."
Jess clambered into the spot between Sid and I and snuggled down.
Sid "Do what ya want."
Jess "Ahh, jealousy is a scary thing."
Sid "Huh?
Sid "Geez, how old are you, anyway?"
Jess "Like I said, don't treat me like a kid.
Jess "Besides, you're the one who got all jealous just 'cause you saw some other guy talking to Jily."
(Wait, what? Sid's jealous?)
I blinked in surprise and rolled over to get a better look at Jess.
Jily "Jess—"
But to my surprise his eyes were already shut, and his breathing was even.
(No way.)
He'd fallen asleep in the time it took me to roll over, and I stared down at him in shock.
Jily "He just fell asleep. Just like that."
Sid "Kids always fall asleep once they've played and eaten."
Sid glanced at me, but then he refused to say anything more.
(What Jess just said—
(Were you jealous? Is that why you're acting funny?)
I chewed my lower lip as I wondered whether I should talk about it.
But at last I took a deep breath and spoke again.
Jily "Hey, Sid.
Jily "Is what Jess said true?"
Sid, Chapter 3, Part 3/5:
Jily "Is what Jess said true?"
Sid "Huh?"
Jily "Are you actually jealous?"
Sid glanced back at me for a moment, and then sighed.
He rolled over and propped himself up on one elbow, staring at me.
Jily "What?"
Sid "I know this is like a practice thing, but we're supposed to be married right now.
Sid "I know it shouldn't matter, but I hated seeing that guy trying to get all cozy with you."
Jily "Really?"
Sid "Being married means that I always want you, and only you."
There was no hesitation in Sid's gaze or in his voice as he spoke.
My heart began to race as I stared at him, my eyes wide.
(I never imagined you might feel like that—that you might think that way about being married to me.)
Sid narrowed his eyes as he waited for my response.
Sid "Geez, now you've made me say something embarrassing.
Sid "Hurry up and say something yourself."
(Wait, you want me to say something embarrassing too?)
He almost looked like he was pouting, and I tried to hide my smile.
But I didn't have to think for very long about what I wanted to say.
Jily "Thank you for saying 'my wife' like that. You sounded so sure."
Sid "What?"
Sid blinked at me with wide eyes, and I blushed a little.
Jily "It's just—when you called me that, it made me happy.
Jily "That's all."
I wondered if I should say more than that, but before I could, Sid said,
Sid "Jily."
His voice was a low, husky purr, and it set my heart racing even faster.
He reached out and slid his hand around behind my head, pulling me towards him.
Sid, Chapter 3, Part 4/5:
Sid "Jily."
Sid sat up a little, sliding his hand behind my head and pulling me closer.
(Sid—)
His face was so close it was almost blurred in my vision, and I closed my eyes and lifted my head towards him.
Jess "Don't think you can get all kissy-kissy just 'cause I'm asleep."
I'd been sure Jess was still sound asleep, so I nearly jumped out of my skin when he spoke.
(Ahh, how long have you been awake?!)
I felt extremely awkward at the idea of him watching us kiss.
I hurriedly pulled back from Sid, sitting up a little.
Jily "It's not that, Jess—"
I tried to come up with a reasonable excuse, but Sid interrupted me with a laugh.
Sid "Don't worry, I'm still gonna do it."
Sid reached over and put his hand over Jess's eyes, covering them completely.
Then he leaned towards me and pressed a soft, gentle kiss against my lips.
Jily "Sid—"
I gasped his name as our lips parted, and he grinned roguishly at me.
There was nothing else to do but laugh at the amusement sparkling in his eyes.
Sid, Chapter 3, Part 5/5:
The next morning dawned clear and bright, with barely a cloud in the sky.
It would soon be time for Jess to return to the orphanage, and we were waiting outside the house.
Sid "That it?"
A carriage pulled up in front of the house, and a woman stepped down.
Woman "Thank you so much for taking care of him. You really helped us out."
Jess "Come play with me again."
Sid "I will, if I feel like it."
Jess was trying to be as grown-up as always, and I smiled down at him.
Sid crouched down so they were eye to eye and ruffled Jess's hair.
Jily "Jess, we'll come see you again, okay?"
As soon as I spoke to him, Jess reached out to grab my hand.
Jess "Jily, come here for a sec."
Jily "Yes?"
Jess pulled me a short distance away, and beckoned me closer.
I crouched down to see what he wanted, and a moment later he kissed me soundly on the cheek.
Sid "Why you little—"
Jess "Seeya, Sid! Seeya, Jily!"
Jess stuck his tongue out at Sid and then scampered into the carriage and out of sight.
Sid "Geez."
We waved until the carriage was gone and then stepped back inside the house.
Jily "He kept us busy, but he sure was cute, wasn't he?"
Sid "That last bit was too much."
Sid was still frowning, and I couldn't help but giggle at his expression.
Jily "Are you jealous again?"
Sid turned to look at me, and his frown turned into a leering grin.
Sid "You're too much too."
(Ahh!)
He pulled me into a sudden embrace, his lips nibbling on my earlobe.
Jily "Sid—"
Sid "We didn't get to have any fun while Jess was here watching.
Sid "But now it's just the two of us."
Jily "I guess you're right."
His voice was syrupy sweet in my ear, and my heart was suddenly racing.
I pulled back a little to look up at him and he grinned down at me, his eyes sparkling.
Sid "Now it's my turn to be 'too much.'"

Sid, Chapter 4-Sweet Ending, Part 1/5:
Sid "Now it's my turn to be 'too much.'"
(You're already too much, Sid!)
Sid reached out and parted my hair with his fingers, baring my neck.
Jily "Oh—"
He pressed his lips against my neck, his teeth grazing lightly against my skin.
Jily "Sid—"
I gasped his name, my body quivering, and he laughed softly.
Sid "That's a heck of a reaction for one little kiss."
Jily "Shush."
I pouted up at him, but the look in his eyes made my heart pound.
He wrapped his arms around me and lifted me into the air, carrying me over to the bed.
Sid "You always make the best faces when I tease you."
He grinned at me as he pushed me down against the covers, his hands pinning me in place.
Sid "Hey, Jily."
Sid, Chapter 4-Sweet Ending, Part 2/5:
Sid "Hey, Jily."
There was a raw sensuality to Sid's voice as he spoke my name, and it sent a shudder down my spine.
He reached out and stroked my cheek gently.
Sid "I like spending time with you like this."
Jily "You do?"
Sid "But today's the last day.
Sid "I wish we could be together for longer."
(Oh my gosh, you're killing me. You never say stuff like that.)
Jily "Sid, you're awful."
My heart was pounding, and the words popped out before I'd really thought them through.
Sid "Huh?
Sid "What the heck was awful about that?"
Jily "I just—if you say stuff like that, I won't want to go home at all."
I gave him a chagrined smile and turned my gaze away, and he laughed suddenly.
Sid "Huh. You're honest today."
Jily "Well, you're not like yourself either."
Sid "Ain't I?"
Sid smirked at my words, and leaned over to kiss me softly.
Sid "Even if I don't say it, I'm always thinking it.
Sid "I never get sick of being with you."
(Oh, Sid—)
His gaze was intense as he stared down at me, and it sent a thrill of excitement right through me.
I reached up and wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him closer.
Our lips came together in a feverish kiss as we fell back against the covers.
***
The rest of our time together seemed to pass by in the blink of an eye.
Sid, Chapter 4-Sweet Ending, Part 3/5:
All too soon our three days of married life were over, and I returned to the palace.
I soon found myself in the study, back at work as usual.
Giles "Princess, how was your married life?"
Giles smiled at me, and I paused with my quill halfway across a parchment.
Jily "A lot of things happened, but... I really enjoyed it."
Giles "Is that so? The people at the orphanage had nothing but praise for you.
Giles "Perhaps it's time to raise Sid to the status of prince consort candidate."
Jily "Yes, I'd like that."
I felt a strange flutter in my stomach at Giles's suggestion.
I glanced up at him, but he only continued to smile at me.
There was satisfaction in his eyes, and then he turned away to look at the clock.
Giles "Don't forget the cultural exchange party being held this afternoon.
Giles "I know you've been away for a few days, but please do your best."
Jily "Of course."
***
The morning seemed to fly by, and soon it was time for the party.
As soon as I was dressed and ready I hurried through the palace.
I was just turning a corner when I heard an unexpected voice.
Sid "Heya."
Sid, Chapter 4-Sweet Ending, Part 4/5:
Sid "Heya."
(Oh gosh, that outfit—)
Jily "Sid, are you attending the party as well?"
Sid "Yeah.
Sid "I gotta show my face at these things every once in a while."
Jily "I guess so."
I smiled up at him, and then I realized my heart was pounding.
Somehow I felt awkward standing there talking with him.
(Just seeing you reminds me of the days we spent together, pretending to be married.)
Seeing his face and hearing his voice was enough to bring back all those memories vividly.
Sid smirked with amusement as he looked down at me and said,
Sid "You might wanna wait until you stop blushing before you go in."
Jily "What—"
I covered my cheeks with my hands, and Sid laughed and reached out to tweak my hair.
Sid "I'll see ya in there."
He grinned at me as he sauntered away down the corridor.
Once the party had started, I stood before the gathered guests with my glass raised in the air.
Jily "Thank you all for coming to today's cultural exchange party.
Jily "I would like to propose a toast to you all!"
After the toast was over, one of the nobles approached me, his eyes sparkling with curiosity.
Noble 1 "I heard that you spent some time living with a prince consort candidate.
Noble 1 "Does that mean you've already chosen someone?"
Jily "Well, I—"
(Ack, how am I supposed to respond to that? Where did you even hear about it?)
As I stood there trying to find an answer, I heard the faint sound of music.
??? "Excuse me."
(Oh!)
I turned in surprise at the polite voice that spoke from behind me.
Standing there with a gentle smile on his face was—
Sid "Princess.
Sid "May I have this dance?"
Sid, Chapter 4-Sweet Ending, Part 5/5:
Sid "May I have this dance?"
Sid offered me his hand, the gesture elegant and refined.
I heard the nobles gathered around us begin to whisper to each other.
Noble 2 "Is that the man who was living with the princess?"
Noble 3 "Do you think she'll dance with him?"
The ballroom was already filled with chatter, but it felt as if Sid and I were surrounded by a bubble of whispering gossip.
Yet Sid ignored it all and simply stood there, smiling at me, his hand held out.
I looked up into his sparkling blue eyes and I couldn't help but smile.
(When we were living together, I realized all over again—
(I can't imagine spending the rest of my life with anyone but you.)
Jily "I'd be delighted."
I placed my hand in Sid's, and he led me into the center of the room.
He pulled me into his arms, speaking softly as we began to dance.
Sid "What's with that big happy grin?"
Jily "Seeing you today keeps reminding me of living with you down in town."
(I keep thinking of how much fun we had, and how sweet you were...)
My smile widened even more as I thought about it, and Sid leaned close to murmur in my ear.
Sid "So you're not gonna choose anyone but me, right?"
There was something triumphant about his smile as he spoke.
But I smiled brightly back up at him, not about to back down.
Jily "You'd better not let yourself get distracted from me either."
Sid "As if I would.
Sid "But hey, I can spend the rest of my life making sure you understand that. There's something to look forward to."
Sid's smirk became more of a sweet smile, and then he laughed softly.
(I won't say it aloud, because I know how you'd tease me.
(But you're right. You're the only one for me.)
I couldn't help but laugh as I looked up at the sweet smile on his handsome face.
We only had eyes for each other as we continued to dance together...

Sid, Chapter 4-Premium Ending, Part 1/5:
Sid "Now it's my turn to be 'too much.'"
(Well, I was kind of enjoying getting one up on you, but—)
I relaxed into Sid's embrace, sliding my arms around him.
(After spending so much time together with you like this—
(It's made me realize all over again just how much I want to be with you.)
I felt his arms tighten around me, and I looked up at him.
Jily "After all this, I think I'm gonna be lonely without you when we have to go home."
I spoke softly, and Sid's expression relaxed into a gentle smile.
Sid "Yeah, me too."
(Really? I thought you were gonna tease me or make a joke for sure.)
But instead of saying anything else, Sid nuzzled against my ear again.
There was something sweet and kind about the gesture, and it encouraged me to say,
Jily "So what about you?"
Sid "Me?"
Jily "Well, I just said how I feel about things.
Jily "Instead of just agreeing, why don't you tell me how you feel?"
Sid "I guess you're right."
Sid narrowed his eyes, looking thoughtfully down at me.
I waited for him to reply, but after a long moment—
Jily "Waah!"
Sid slid one arm under my shoulders and the other under my knees, lifting me into the air.
Sid, Chapter 4-Premium Ending, Part 2/5:
Before I could react, Sid carried me across to the bed.
Sid "I guess it ain't very nice of me, making you say stuff and not saying anything back."
He set me gently down on top of the covers as he spoke.
He knelt down on the bed and leaned over me, catching my gaze.
Sid "I'm gonna be lonely too."
(Really?)
My eyes widened in surprise at his husky, serious voice.
Sid smiled at me then, reaching out to take my hand and place it over his heart.
Jily "Oh—"
I could clearly feel how fast his heart was pounding, and I blinked up at him.
Sid "I'm crazy for ya.
Sid "Whatever else, I'm always thinking about how I wanna be with you."
Jily "Sid—"
Sid reached down and slid a strap of my dress off one shoulder, his touch gentle.
Sid "Let me help you forget about being lonely."
He lowered his head and nuzzled against my neck, his lips warm on my skin.
Jily "Ohhhhh—"

Sid "Let me help you forget about being lonely."
He lowered his head and nuzzled against my neck, his lips warm on my skin.
Jily "Ohhhhh—"
I gasped helplessly as he bit me gently, his teeth grazing across my skin.
Jily "Sid—"
Sid "You're so gorgeous when you get all worked up like this."
Every time Sid touched me somewhere new, every time his voice whispered sweetly in my ear,
my body responded more until I was almost crazy with need and desire.
Jily "I love you, Sid—"
I reached up and wrapped my arms around him as his warm body pressed down against me.

Later that night—
Sid and I decided to walk around town together on our last evening.
Sid "The town ain't half bad at night."
Sid shifted his grip on my hand, twining his fingers with mine.
A gentle breeze caressed my cheek, ruffling my hair, and I smiled.
Jily "It makes me so happy, being able to take a night-time stroll with you like this."
I was just saying what I was thinking, but Sid's eyes widened a little as he looked down at me.
Sid "You're unusually forthcoming today."
Jily "You think?"
Sid "Yep."
(Well, it's not like I'm forcing myself to say what I feel.
(Maybe it's just because I'm so happy that you've been so sweet the last few days.)
I looked up and met Sid's gaze, and he smiled gently down at me.
Sid "Well, if you're gonna be like that, maybe I should try it too."
Jily "You? Really?"
Sid "There's some place I wanna take you."
Sid, Chapter 4-Premium Ending, Part 4/5:
Sid "There's some place I wanna take you."
(I can't imagine where on earth that might be, but—)
Jily "Okay, I'd like that."
Sid squeezed my hand and I followed after him as he led me down the street.
***
Jily "This is—"
Sid took me to the top of a hill where we could see the whole town spread out below us.
The sky felt closer than ever, and countless stars seemed to be winking down at us.
Jily "It's beautiful!"
Sid "Right?"
Sid looked up at the sky as well, his smile satisfied.
Jily "Do you come here often?"
Sid "Sometimes."
Jily "I see."
(It's beautiful, and I'm glad you brought me here.
(But I can't help wondering if there's a particular reason.)
I glanced at Sid again, and his eyes met mine for a moment.
Sid "Yep, I was right. This is nice.
Sid "Looking at beautiful scenery with the woman I love."
I caught my breath at his serious tone of voice.
Happiness and joy flooded through me, my love for Sid almost overwhelming me for a moment.
Jily "But today is the last day for this."
I whispered the words softly, and Sid leaned closer, catching my gaze.
Sid "Are you feeling lonely again?"
Sid, Chapter 4-Premium Ending, Part 5/5:
Sid "Are you feeling lonely again?"
(Again, huh?)
He was right, but I felt embarrassed about admitting it for the second time that day.
Jily "No, I'm not."
I shook my head, trying to meet his gaze, and he grinned at me.
Sid "That so? If you're not feeling lonely right now—
Sid "I guess it's just me then."
Jily "Wait—"
Sid's voice was gruff and serious, and I looked up at him in surprise.
Sid "I realized something all over again these last three days.
Sid "When I'm with you, that's when I'm happiest.
Sid "Maybe it's not so much that I'm lonely, but that I don't wanna let you go."
Sid reached out and took my hand as he spoke, squeezing my fingers.
(Oh gosh, Sid—I had no idea you felt that way.)
The warmth of his hand seemed to make his words even more real to me, and my heart began to pound.
Jily "I'm sorry. I lied, a moment ago.
Jily "I feel lonely too—I don't want to leave you."
I squeezed his hand as I looked up at him, and one side of his lips lifted in a smirk.
Sid "That makes things easier.
Sid "If neither of us wants to feel lonely—
Sid "Well, we'll just have to do this."
His breath warmed my lips as he spoke, and then he kissed me.
His kiss was rough and yet sweet somehow, and I closed my eyes, reaching up to wrap my arms around him.
But even with my eyes closed I felt as if I could still see the beautiful sky of stars Sid had shown me...
