Prologue:

Sweet white and pink flowers bloomed everywhere in the town, giving it a bright, fresh vibe.
It was a season for new beginnings, a season for things to change.
Giles:You will have a special job to do starting from tomorrow.
Giles reached out to pull open a drawer in the desk as he spoke.
Giles:This is the season in Wysteria when thoughts turn to marriage.
Giles:But you have not yet chosen a prince consort.
Giles removed something from the drawer and closed it again.
Then he held out his hand, offering it to me.
Giles:A day will come soon enough when you will be married.
Giles:I would like you to practice what that's like for just three days.
Atop Giles's hand was a small box, the outside made of plush velvet.
Giles:I will leave the choice up to you.
Giles:Who will be your husband for the next three days?
I stared up at him with wide eyes as I reached out to take the small box from him.

(I'm supposed to choose a husband? Then what's this?)

I hesitated for a moment, and then opened the box.
Inside I found two rings, sparkling brightly...

Who will you choose to be with, Jily?

Byron, Chapter 1:

Giles:I will leave the choice up to you.
Giles:Who will be your husband for the next three days?
I opened the box and found two rings nestled inside.

(If I'm supposed to choose a husband, then these are...)

Jily:Rings?
Giles:Yes, that's right.
Giles nodded, and an image of Byron flashed through my mind.

(But that would be impossible to arrange, wouldn't it?)

Giles:Is there anyone in particular you would like to choose?
Jily:I'm... not sure.
Giles:Then I will let you think about it until tomorrow.
Giles:If you can't come up with anyone, I will make a choice for you.
I closed the lid of the box and slid it into my pocket.

(Ahh, I don't know what to do.)

***

I returned to my room, where Nico greeted me with a bright smile.
Nico:I made some tea for you, Jily!
Jily:Thank you.
I sat down on the sofa, and Nico came closer to study my expression.
Nico:Did something happen?
I took the teacup he offered, and gave a long sigh.
Jily:Actually...
I explained what Giles had told me, and Nico frowned thoughtfully.
Nico:Hmm, I see.
But a moment later, his expression changed.
Nico:I just had a great idea!

=======

Nico:I just had a great idea!
He beamed brightly as he looked down at me.
Nico:Leave it to me, Jily!
Jily:What? Really?
Nico:Yep. I just had the best idea.
Nico's smile was full of confidence as he headed towards the door.

(The best idea, huh?)

Jily:Hey, Nic—
But the door shut behind him before I could finish.

***

That evening—
Byron was sitting at his desk when Albert stepped into the room.
Albert:Your Majesty, Nico has sent an urgent request that he would like you to check immediately.
Byron:What is it?
Albert unrolled the parchment and began to read the contents aloud.
Albert:An assignment has come up for the princess of Wysteria.
Albert:She is to spend the next three days with a prince consort candidate, experiencing 'married life'—
Albert:What the—married life?!
Albert's eyes widened in surprise at the unexpected words.
Byron lifted his head quietly, and a small smile crossed his face.
Byron:A prince consort candidate, hmm?
Byron:This could be a good opportunity.
Albert:I'm sorry?
Byron:We can formally proclaim the princess of Wysteria as a potential queen for Stein.
Albert:By which you mean...
Byron:I mean what I said.
Byron:She should experience that 'married life' here.

=======

The next day—
I received a summons from Giles and made my way to the study.
I stood in front of his desk, waiting uneasily for him to speak.

(In the end, I just kept thinking about Byron, and I couldn't think of anyone else to choose.)

Giles reached for one of the drawers on the desk as he looked up at me.
Giles:Before I go any further, were you able to decide on a husband for your married life?
Jily:No.
I shook my head slowly, and Giles pulled a piece of parchment out the drawer and handed it to me.
Giles:This letter arrived this morning.
Giles:The king of Stein has said he would be delighted to play the role of your husband.
Jily:Wait—King Byron?
I took the parchment with disbelief, but sure enough, I recognized Byron's beautiful handwriting.

(Wait a minute—)

Nico:Leave it to me, Jily!
Nico:I just had the best idea.

(Did you contact Byron, Nico?)

Giles:What do you think, Princess?
My heart swelled with happiness at the unexpected outcome, and I couldn't contain my bright smile.

(I have to thank Nico for this!)

I looked up from the parchment and met Giles's gaze.
Jily:I'd certainly like to take him up on his offer.

***

And so it was decided that I would spend the three days of my married life in Stein with Byron.
Later that evening—
I was sitting in Byron's room, waiting for him to return from his study.
I clutched the box holding the rings tightly in my hand.

(I never imagined I might actually get the chance to do this with Byron.)

At that moment, the door opened, and Byron stepped into the room.

=======

The door opened, and Byron stepped into the room.
Byron:You're here.

(Oh, Byron—)

My heart began to pound painfully, seeing him right there in front of me at last.
I stood up from my chair and curtseyed to him.
Jily:Thank you for giving me this opportunity.
Byron:Not at all.
Byron reached out, caressing my cheek with the back of his hand.
Byron:I'm the one who made the offer.
Byron:I should be thanking you.
Jily:Byron—
I started to reach up, meaning to place my hand over his on my cheek.

(Oh!)

But that reminded me of the box I was still holding.
Byron:What is it?
Jily:Actually, Giles gave me rings for us to wear.
I lifted up the box I was holding and showed it to him.
Byron:I see.
Byron took the box from my hand, and removed the smaller ring from it.
Byron:Give me your left hand.

=======

Byron:Give me your left hand.
Jily:Okay.
I offered Byron my left hand, and he slid the ring onto my ring finger.
I gazed down at the slender gold ring adorning my finger.
Byron:It suits you.
Jily:Thank you.
Jily:May I put your ring on for you?
Byron:Of course.
I took the other ring from the box, and slid it onto the ring finger of Byron's left hand.
The matching gold rings seemed to sparkle in the light from the lamps.

(It's like we really are married.)

As I gazed down at the rings, Byron took my left hand in his, smiling at me.
Byron:From tonight onwards, you are my queen.
Jily:Thank you.

(It's only for three days, but—)
(I really want to be the best wife I can be for you.)

Jily:I'm looking forward to it.
Byron:So am I.
Byron leaned towards me, pressing a gentle kiss against my lips.

(I wonder what our married life will be like?)

I reached up and wrapped my arms around Byron, my heart brimming with hope and anticipation.

***

The next morning—
Jily:Byron?
Byron:What is it?
Byron glanced back as he pulled on his gloves, and I stepped towards him.
Jily:Please let me fix your collar.
I stood up on tiptoes and reached up to straighten Byron's collar for him.

(There, that looks right.)

I admired his collar for a moment and then looked up at him.

(Oh!)

Byron was looking directly down at me, and our gazes met.
We stared at each other in silence for a moment, and I could hear my heart pounding.

Byron, Chapter 2:

Byron glanced back as he pulled on his gloves, and I stepped towards him.
Jily:Please let me fix your collar.
I stood up on tiptoes and reached up to straighten Byron's collar for him.

(There, that looks right.)

I admired his collar for a moment and then looked up at him.

(Oh!)

Byron was looking directly down at me, and our gazes met.
We stared at each other in silence for a moment, and I could hear my heart pounding.
I waited for him to say something, but when he didn't, I said,
Jily:Is something the matter?
Byron:No.
Byron's eye widened slightly in surprise, and then he smiled.
Byron:So this is what marriage is like.
Byron:This makes me happy.

(Oh, Byron—)

I blinked up at him in surprise, and then I smiled.

(Well, you're right.)
(Having the person you love by your side from first thing in the morning makes the whole day seem brighter.)

Jily:I'm happy being able to be with you like this too.
Byron:Good.
Byron and I smiled at each other, and then a voice from the other side of the door interrupted us.
Servant:Your Majesty, breakfast is ready.
Byron glanced at the door, and then leaned over to kiss my cheek.
Byron:Shall we?
Jily:Yes.
Byron offered me his left hand, the ring on his finger sparkling faintly.

***

The table was laid out with freshly baked bread, soup, and fresh fruits.
Byron and I sat down next to each other and began to eat.
As we were eating, Albert stepped into the room and approached us.
Albert:Your Majesty, you should be able to complete all your work for the day by midday.
Albert:I've arranged things so that you can spend as much time as possible together.
Albert:I wish you luck.
Byron:Thanks, Al.
Albert:I will take my leave, then.
I watched as Albert walked away, and then I realized Byron was leaning towards me.
Byron:Jily.

(What is it?)

Byron:Hold still.

=======

Byron:Hold still.
I watched as Byron began to reach towards me.
Jily:Huh?

(Don't tell me—)

Jily:Do I have food on my face?
I hurriedly reached for a napkin and raised it to my mouth.
Byron:No, that's not it.
Byron caught my hand, lowering it away from my face, and kissed my cheek.
Jily:Oh!
Byron:We've almost finished eating.
Byron:I was just thinking, before I head off to get my work done...
Jily:What?
Byron:I've heard that in Wysteria,
Byron:you have the custom of a goodbye kiss in the morning.
My cheeks flushed with happiness as I finally understood.
Jily:Where did you hear about that?
Byron:I read about it in a book.
Byron smiled gently, his expression unusually innocent for a moment.
I'd never seen him look that way before, and my heart skipped a beat at the sight.

(Our married life has only just started, and yet—)
(I'm already seeing a side of you I've never seen before.)

Jily:I hope you're able to finish your work quickly.
I murmured the words almost without thinking, and Byron's smile widened.
Byron:Me too.
Byron:I'll work as fast as I can.

(Ahh, I'm so happy.)

***

A short while later—
Albert was striding through the castle when a servant approached him, his manner flustered.
Servant:Apparently His Majesty and Princess Jily have a visitor.
Albert:They're both working. Why would they have a visitor now?
Albert knocked on the door of the guest room he'd been directed to, and opened it.
Albert:If you'll pardon my intrusio—
Albert paused mid-sentence, and then pushed his glasses further up his nose.
Albert:And you are?

=======

Early in the afternoon I was summoned to the study.
Byron had apparently finished his work, and he was there with someone unexpected.

(Huh?)

Albert:Your Majesty, Princess—
Albert was there, holding the hand of a small child.
Jily:What's going on?
Albert explained that apparently, as a part of our:married life,
we were also expected to take care of a child from the orphanage for a day.
Albert:Apparently your married life is also supposed to include child-raising.
Byron:I see.
Byron smiled and turned to look at the girl standing quietly next to Albert.
Byron:What's your name?
Girl:Senna.
The young girl had a sweet, friendly smile and bright eyes.
I stepped over to where she stood and crouched down so that my eyes were level with hers.
Jily:I'm Jily. It's nice to meet you.
Senna:It's nice to meet you too!

(She seems super cheerful. She's adorable.)

Byron:Is there anything you want to do?
Senna:I want to go play!
Senna beamed brightly up at Byron as she spoke, and Byron and I looked at each other.
Jily:It's like we really do have a child.
Byron:Yes, it is.
Byron:How about I get changed and we go into town?
Jily:That sounds nice.
And with that, the decision was made for how we'd spend our afternoon.

=======

Byron held Senna's hand as we walked around the town.
As I walked alongside them, Byron reached out and wrapped his hand around mine.
Jily:Byron?
Byron:Married couples usually hold hands, don't they?
It was a small thing, but it made me happy, and I smiled up at him.
Jily:Yes, they do.
We continued to walk down the street together,
and I noticed that the streets were filled with families, as if something special was happening that day.

(When we walk together like this, hand in hand,)
(I wonder if we look like a family too?)

As I was thinking that, Senna suddenly stopped walking.
Byron:What is it?
Senna was staring at two girls up ahead of us who were clearly sisters, playing happily together.
Senna:I want a big sister too.
Senna's shoulders slumped sadly, and she gave a big sigh.

(Aww, she looks so sad.)

I leaned closer, feeling worried about her, but then she looked up at me with wide eyes.
Senna:Hey, Jily? How do you make children?
Jily:What?

(How the heck am I supposed to answer that?!)

I stared down at her, completely lost for words.
Byron:Hmm, yes.

=======

Byron:Hmm, yes.
Byron turned his gaze on Senna, his eye slightly narrowed.
Byron:If you want to know the answer to that,
Byron:you should ask Albert when we get back to the castle.
Senna:That guy with the glasses?
Byron:Yes. He knows everything.
Senna:Okay!
Senna hurried forward happily again, her attention successfully distracted.
I breathed a sigh of relief and then looked up at Byron.
Jily:Are you sure it's okay for her to ask Albert?
Byron:Al will figure out some way to deal with it.
Byron watched Senna as he spoke.
Byron:Even so, it's nice having a child around, isn't it?
Byron:I feel at peace somehow.
Byron gently squeezed my hand, and I smiled as I squeezed his back.
Jily:So do I.

(If you and I had a child together—)
(Would our life be like this?)

***

We returned to the castle as the sun began to set in the sky.
Byron:Senna.

傑3

Byron, Chapter 3:

Byron:Senna.
Byron was washing Senna gently with soap.
Senna splashed her legs in the water, giggling happily.
Senna:That tickles!
Byron:You're all clean.
Byron poured warm water over Senna, washing the soap off her.
I picked up a towel and wrapped it around Senna as she ran out of the bath.
Jily:Byron, thank you. Please relax and enjoy your own bath now.
Byron:I will.
Byron:Don't go overdoing it.
Byron:If you need anything else, let me know.
Jily:I will.
Byron smiled at me, and I waved as we left the bathroom.
His smiling face lingered in my mind, and my heart was filled with joy.

(Byron, you'd be such a great father.)

***

At last Byron and I laid down in bed together, with Senna lying between us.

(She's so adorable!)

Byron:I think she's asleep.
Jily:Yes.
Byron reached down and gently brushed Senna's hair back from her forehead.
Jily:Goodnight, Byron.
Byron:Goodnight.
Byron and I both leaned down to kiss Senna on the cheek.

***

Late that night—
Senna:Nnnnn—
Senna wriggled around on the bed as she woke up.
She looked at Jily and Byron, sleeping on each side of her, and her face fell.
Senna:I'm sorry.
She rubbed her eyes sleepily, and then clambered quietly out of bed.

=======

Jily:Nnnnn—
I rolled over in bed, but as my hand touched the sheets, something didn't feel right.

(Hang on—)

I opened my eyes and looked around, but Senna was nowhere to be seen, and the door was wide open.
Jily:Byron!!
Byron:...What is it?
Jily:Senna's gone!
Byron sat up quickly at my words, and reached out to touch the sheets where she'd lain.
Byron:It's still warm.
Byron climbed out of bed and hastily began to get dressed.
Byron:She can't have gone far.
Byron:I'll go look for her.
Byron headed for the door, but I called out to stop him.

(I can't just stay here and wait for you. I want to go too.)

Jily:Byron—please let me go with you.
Byron glanced back at me, and his expression relaxed into a smile.
Byron:Very well.

***

We alerted the castle staff and searched quickly through the castle, but Senna was nowhere to be found.
Byron and I headed outside until we were at a forest within the castle grounds.

(Where on earth could Senna have gone?)

Jily:I'm going to search over there.
Byron:Okay.
I turned away, but Byron reached out and caught my hand.
Byron:Be careful.
Jily:I will.
I nodded, squeezing Byron's fingers gently as I did so.

(But really, where could she be?)

I'd only been walking for a short while when I heard the sound of someone crying.

(It seems to be coming from that thicket of trees over there.)

I walked in the direction of the sound until I was almost on top of it.
Jily:Senna!
There was a hole in the ground between the trees, and Senna had fallen into it.

(I have to help her!)

I caught hold of a branch to steady myself, and reached towards her with my other hand, when—

(Ahhh!)

My feet slipped on the uneven ground, and my body tumbled towards the hole.
At that moment, Byron reached out towards me, his warm arms catching hold of me.
Byron:Jily!!
Byron wrapped his arms around me, and we fell into the hole together.

=======

Held fast in Byron's arms, and we fell into the hole together.
Byron:Are you okay?
Jily:I'm okay, but are you?
Byron:I'm fine.
Byron:But never mind me, what about Senna?
Byron approached Senna, and gently touched her cheek with the back of his hand.
Byron:Senna?
Senna was covered in mud, and she began to sob, tears streaming down her face.
Senna:I'm so sorry!
She was a complete mess, and I spoke as gently as I could.
Jily:What's the matter, Senna?
Senna:I didn't want to go home, and I thought if I hid somewhere maybe I wouldn't have to.
Senna:I mean, now I have a family and all...
Her words reminded me of when we'd been walking through the town together.
Senna:I want a big sister too.

(All you ever wanted was a family.)

My heart ached at her wretched expression.
Byron placed a gentle hand on her head, leaning close to study her face.
Byron:Senna.
Byron:I'm glad you're okay.
He gently ruffled her hair, and then reached out with his other arm and pulled me close.

=======

Byron reached out and pulled me and Senna close.
Byron:It may only be three days, but we're just like a family.
Byron:And you can come see us again whenever you like.
Senna continued to cry, but she snuggled up against Byron, and he wrapped his arm around her.
At that moment, I heard a familiar sound overhead.

(Wait, I know that noise.)

I looked up above us just in time to see an owl fly by overhead.
Jily:Spinner?
Byron:It would appear someone is coming for us soon, then.
Byron smiled as he looked down at Senna's muddy body.
Byron:When we get back, I'll give you another bath.

***

Byron gave Senna another bath after we returned to the palace.
Senna must have been exhausted, for she fell asleep as soon as she got out.
Jily:So she just wanted a family.
Byron:Yes.
Byron reached out and gently stroked Senna's hair as she slept.
He sighed softly, and then turned to look at me.
Byron:Jily.
Jily:Yes?
Byron:I have a suggestion.

***

The next day—
A woman from the orphanage took hold of Senna's hand and led her over to the waiting carriage.
Jily:Senna.
I crouched down in front of Senna and handed her a small locket on a chain.
Senna:What's this?
Jily:Open it and see.
Senna opened the locket, and inside she found a small drawing of herself, Byron, and me.
Byron:This is proof that you're a part of our family.
Byron's suggestion the night before had been that we give Senna a present to help her remember us.
So we'd made some urgent arrangements with the help of the castle staff.
Jily:Don't forget us, okay?
Senna:I'll treasure it forever!
Senna's face lit up with a smile, like a bolt of sunshine breaking through the clouds.
She waved happily to us as she climbed into the carriage.
We watched the carriage drive off, and then Albert turned to Byron.
Albert:Your Majesty, there is work waiting to be dealt with.
Byron:Of course.

(You're always so busy, Byron.)

Byron turned and started to walk away, but then he stopped again.
He turned back to look at me.
Byron:Jily.

=======

Byron turned back to look at me, a small smile on his face.
Byron:Keep tonight free.
Byron:I'll come see you.
Jily:Okay.

(Does that mean we'll get to spend our last night together?)

I smiled hopefully back at him, curtseying politely.
Albert opened the study door, and Byron stepped into the room.
As Albert shut the door behind them, he spoke suddenly as if remembering something.
Albert:Your Majesty, they've asked if you could prepare a report about your married life and submit it today.
Albert:How has it been, living as a married couple?
Byron was reaching for a document, but he paused at Albert's words.
His expression turned thoughtful, a faint flush spreading across his cheeks.
Albert:Is something the matter?
Byron:No, it's nothing.
Byron looked down at the desk in front of him, avoiding Albert's gaze.

***

That evening, Byron came to get me and we stepped out into the gardens together.
Jily:Thank you so much for spending these three days with me.
Byron:You're welcome.

(I can't believe today's the last day.)

I felt lonely just thinking about going home, and then Byron reached out to take my hand.
Byron:It's strange, isn't it?
Byron:When I'm with you, time seems to fly by all too fast.
Jily:Byron—
Byron:This is the last night. I'd like to make it a night just for you.
Byron:Is there anything you'd like to do?
I looked up at his sweet smile, my heart pounding as I considered his words.

Byron, Chapter 4-Sweet Ending:

Byron's expression was gentle as he gazed down at me.
Byron:This is the last night. I'd like to make it a night just for you.
Byron:Is there anything you'd like to do?
I dropped my gaze thoughtfully as I considered his words.

(Is there something I really want?)

〝Byron:I've heard that in Wysteria,〞
〝Byron:you have the custom of a goodbye kiss in the morning.〞

〝Byron:Don't go overdoing it.〞
〝Byron:If you need anything else, let me know.〞

(Spending these normal days with you has made me so happy.)
(More than anything, I've realized that so long as I'm with you, everything is more enjoyable.
(So on this last night...)

I gently squeezed Byron's hand as I looked up at him again.
Jily:I'd like to take a quiet walk with you.
Byron:A walk?
Jily:Yes. Being with you like this is what makes me happy.
Byron:I see.
Byron squeezed my hand in return, and we began to walk through the gardens, the stars twinkling overhead.
At last we reached a lake that was inside the castle grounds.
Byron glanced up at the starry sky, and then stopped walking.
Byron:How strange.
Jily:Hmm?
Byron's gaze moved from the stars to me.

=======

Byron glanced up at the starry sky, and then stopped walking.
Byron:How strange.
Jily:Hmm?
Byron:We're not doing anything special.
Byron:And yet just having you by my side makes the scenery look different.
Byron:It's beautiful.
Jily:Byron—
A soft night breeze blew past, gently ruffling our hair.
Byron reached out and cupped my cheek with his hand, gazing down at me.
Byron:You are and always have been the only one who makes me feel this way.
Byron:I promise you that I will make you my queen.
Before I could even think of what to say, his lips captured mine in a kiss.
I closed my eyes and leaned into the kiss, tasting the sweetness of his lips.

***

Several days later—
Nico:Jily, c'mon, hurry up!
Nico:We're gonna be late!

=======

Nico:Jily, c'mon, hurry up!
Nico:We're gonna be late!
I was standing in front of the mirror, trying to put on my earrings.
Jily:I know, give me a moment!
A ball was being held in Stein to promote cultural exchange between the neighboring countries.
I'd received a personal invitation to the event from Byron.
As I hurried towards the door, Nico began to chatter excitedly.
Nico:You and Byron's married life has been the talk of the town, even in other countries.
Nico:You're going to be the center of attention at the ball, Jily!
Jily:Do you really think so?
Nico:Absolutely. And since you got a personal invitation from Byron...
Nico:Maybe he'll introduce you to everyone formally.
Nico opened the door for me, and I stepped out into the corridor.
We made our ways towards the ballroom, where we found Albert standing outside the door.
Albert:I've been waiting for you.
Albert glanced at me, and then cleared his throat.
Albert:I can find nothing to criticize in your choice of attire.
Albert:His Majesty is waiting for you.
Albert pushed the heavy door open for me, and I took a step forward.
The lively, crowded scene inside the room seemed to unfurl before my eyes as the door opened.

=======

The moment I stepped into the ballroom, I heard the buzz of whispering voices around me.
Noblewoman:Isn't that the princess who's won King Byron's heart?
Baron:Call it royal duties all you like, but didn't they live together?

(It's just like Nico said...)

〝Nico:You and Byron's married life has been the talk of the town, even in other countries.〞
〝Nico:You're going to be the center of attention at the ball, Jily!〞

(Ahh, now I'm super nervous!)

I took a deep breath, and then let it out slowly as I stepped further into the room.
As I did so, the crowds parted, and I saw Byron walking towards me from the center of the room.
Byron:You're here at last.
My heart skipped a beat at the sight of him.
Jily:It's good to see you again, King Byron.
I curtseyed politely, and Byron offered me his hand.
Byron:May I have this dance, Princess?
Jily:I'd be delighted.
An elegant waltz was playing, and we began to dance in time to the music.
Byron:You look beautiful.
Jily:Thank you.
I smiled shyly up at Byron, my heart pounding faster.
As I dropped my gaze again I noticed that there was no longer a ring on the ring finger of his left hand.
An odd sense of sadness rippled through me, and I bit my lip.

(Our married life together really is over.)

Byron:What's wrong?
Jily:It's nothing.
Byron:If something's the matter, tell me.
I tried to concentrate on my dance steps as I searched for the right words.
Jily:I know it was only for three days, but—
Jily:Remembering the married life we shared and knowing it's over just made me feel a bit lonely and sad.
As I finished speaking, the music stopped playing.
We stopped dancing, and Byron's hand fell away from my waist.
I looked hesitantly up at him, wondering what he was thinking.
Byron:In that case, this is the perfect opportunity.

(What does that mean?)

Byron smiled down at me, and then turned his gaze on the people gathered around us.
Byron:Our duties seem to have become the topic of rumor.
Byron:So I would like to acknowledge it here and now.
I looked up at the smile on his face, catching my breath as his words echoed through the room.

(Don't tell me—)

=======

Byron:Our duties seem to have become the topic of rumor.
Byron:So I would like to acknowledge it here and now.
Byron took hold of my hand, looking around at the gathered nobles from all the surrounding countries.
Byron:When the right moment comes—
Byron:I would like to make the princess of Wysteria my queen.
There was a sudden buzz and hum of voices from around us.
Byron:Let me declare it here and now.
Byron's voice cut through the noise, his gaze focused only on me.
Byron:I love the princess of Wysteria.

The ball finally ended late that evening.
Byron and I stepped out onto a deserted balcony together.

(I'm still not sure that wasn't all a wonderful dream!)

〝Byron:Let me declare it here and now.〞
〝Byron:I love the princess of Wysteria.〞

(I never expected you to declare it like that!)

My cheeks flushed again with happiness as I gazed up at the night sky.
Byron reached out and gently touched my cheek.
Byron:So, what do you think?
Jily:About what?
Byron:I haven't heard your answer yet.

(Oh! Well, that's easy.)

I didn't even have to think about it for a moment.
Jily:I love you, Byron. And as your queen I would be honored to rule over both the countries that I love.
Byron's expression relaxed into a gentle smile.
Byron:Ahh, you always get me.
Jily:I do?
Byron:Yes. I only just told you, yet I want to tell you again.
Byron leaned closer until our lips were almost touching.
Byron:I love you, Jily.
He wrapped his arms around my waist, my skirts fluttering as he pulled me towards him.
His kiss was as sudden as it was sweet, and my heart began to pound.

(I love you too, Byron.)

I whispered the words to myself as I closed my eyes and eagerly responded to his kiss...

Byron, Chapter 4-Premium Ending:

Byron's expression was gentle as he gazed down at me.
Byron:This is the last night. I'd like to make it a night just for you.
Byron:Is there anything you'd like to do?
His words reminded me of all the things we'd done together so far.

〝Byron:So this is what marriage is like.〞
〝Byron:This makes me happy.〞

〝Byron:I've heard that in Wysteria,〞
〝Byron:you have the custom of a goodbye kiss in the morning.〞

(I want to make you even happier.)
(I want you to look back at our married life and remember how much fun it was.)

Jily:I'd like to cook something for you.
Byron:Cook something?
Jily:Yes. It was fun spending time with you and Senna, but—
Jily:I want to do the sort of things that couples do together.
Byron:I see.

***

And so I decided to treat Byron to my home cooking.
I was taken to a room equipped with both a kitchen and a dining table.
I stood at the counter and picked up a tomato.

(It's a chilly evening, so some soup would be nice.)

At that moment, a voice spoke from behind me.
Byron:Jily.
Gentle arms wrapped around me from behind.

=======

Byron:Jily.
Gentle arms wrapped around me from behind.
Byron:Is there anything I can do to help?
Jily:Are you sure?
Byron:I'd like to do something together with you, instead of just waiting.

(Well, when you put it like that—)

Jily:Could you chop up these tomatoes for me?
Byron:Yes.
Byron stepped away from me, and took the tomatoes I offered him.
Byron:...How do I chop them?
Byron frowned in confusion as he stared down at the tomatoes, and I giggled softly.

(Sometimes you can be so adorable.)

Jily:Let's chop them together. I'll show you.
I smiled up at Byron as we began to make the soup together.

***

Before long the delicious scent of tomato soup was drifting up from the pot.
I lifted the lid, and steam wafted up into the air.
Byron:It smells good.
Jily:Yes, it does. Do you want to taste it?
I ladled a small amount into a dish and gave Byron a spoon to taste it with.
Byron:It's good. You should try it.
Byron offered the spoon to me, and I tasted the soup as well.
Jily:You're right, it's delicious.
We weren't saying or doing anything important, and yet every moment spent with Byron like this made me so happy.
Byron:Why don't we eat?
Jily:Okay!
Byron and I smiled at each other, and then we began to dish out the soup into bowls.

***

It didn't take us long to enjoy our dinner together, and once it was over—
Byron and I decided to take a bath together.
I sat in the warm water, with Byron's arms around me.

(We've never had a bath together before.)

I felt a little shy and nervous sharing a private bath with him.
Byron pulled me a little closer, and whispered in my ear,
Byron:You don't have to be nervous. I'm not going to do anything.
Byron:Not yet, anyway.
Jily:Byron!
Byron smiled roguishly down at me, and I couldn't help but laugh.

(So not yet means... later?)

=======

Byron's voice was a husky whisper in my ear.
Byron:You don't have to be nervous. I'm not going to do anything.
Byron:Not yet, anyway.

(So not yet means... later?)

I couldn't help but laugh, but my heart was pounding with anticipation.
I could feel my cheeks flushing, and Byron's smile widened as he looked at me.
Byron:Later you'll have to tell me what you were just imagining.

***

After we got out of the bath, Byron carried me into the bedroom and laid me down on the bed.
My tummy was all aflutter in anticipation of what would come next.
Byron:You're blushing.
Jily:I'm just hot from the bath.
We were lying on the sheets together, both of us completely naked.
Our bodies seemed to fit perfectly against each other, his skin warming mine.

(Ahhh, I could lie with you like this all night long.)

I snuggled a little closer to Byron, and he leaned over and nuzzled against my neck.
Byron:Your body is hot, too.

=======

Byron murmured the words as he nuzzled against my neck.

(I think I can blame you for that.)

The touch of his lips against my bare neck only made me hotter.
Jily:Byron—
I gasped his name as he trailed kisses from my collarbone down to my breasts.
Soft moans escaped me each time his lips pressed against my skin, and he frowned a little.
Byron:I don't want to let you go.
His sweet words filled my heart with joy.
Jily:Then don't let me go. Byron, I love you.
My voice was hoarse with need as I reached out to touch his cheek.
Byron:I love you too.
Byron pressed me back against the bed, and I wrapped my arms around him and gave myself over to him.

***

The next morning—
I woke up a little earlier than Byron, and I sat up and spoke gently to wake him.
Jily:Good morning, Byron.
Byron slowly opened his eyes at the sound of my voice.
Byron:Nnnn—

=======

Byron was sleeping soundly, and I murmured to wake him.
Jily:Good morning, Byron.
Byron:Nnnn—
Byron pressed a hand to his forehead, rolling over slowly.
Byron:Oh, it's you.
Byron still looked incredibly sleepy, and I blinked at him in surprise and amusement.

(I've never woken you up before,)
(so I had no idea you were like this in the morning.)
(I love getting to see a new side of you.)

I giggled softly, and Byron looked up at me in confusion.
Byron:What are you laughing at?
I smiled as I looked at him lying there against the pillow, lit up by the morning sun from the window.
Jily:I just realized something all over again.
Jily:I really do love you.
A gentle smile stole across Byron's face at my words.
We gazed at each other in silence for a moment, and then he said,
Byron:And I love you.

(Oh!)

He wrapped his arms around me, pulling me back down into bed with him.
Jily:Byron?
Byron:It's nice having you here with me first thing in the morning.
Byron:I don't want to forget this moment.
Jily:Byron—
Our eyes met and held, and a moment later our lips came together in a soft kiss.

(I love being together with you like this.)
(I hope the day will come when we can spend every day like this, happy and content.)

I made my wish silently as I closed my eyes and let myself drown in Byron's sweet kisses.
